Anyone have 1981 25c DDO or 5c DDR examples?

AzurescensAzurescens Posts: 2,779 ✭✭✭✭✭

Honestly I can't find any pictures that really say to me, "this is a DDO" or "oh yeah that's a DDR". A lot of photos are circulated.. I can Google them all the live long day but would like to see what you ladies and gents have.

Any help?

.. also, has anyone else noticed the back of 1981 dimes with E.P.U. affecting the torch or having "wavy" letters because they are simply too thick? They look like they're fighting for room.

I have a roll of the 81 D ddr nickel. The pick up points are:
E PL of epluribus and the UN of United States. There is a set of parallel die gouges that pass through the UN and at a 45* angle off the F in five

    Thanks man.

After roll and mint set searching today, this is really the only doubling I've found. Just on RIB and ERICA.

You are welcome. If you need a BU example for physical examination let me know. It's one of my favorites, as an underdog and my Birth year.

These are most commonly found in mint sets. The die gouges are best pick up point. Depending on the die stage, the doubling is less obvious in late die stage.

I never did find a Doubled 81 quarter. I searched scores of mint sets

I've never found the quarter either. Maybe found 5-6 of the nickels.

I've always liked 1981 SBA's. None were made for circulation, so they're all very nice and solid detailed strikes. No distractions.

I bet they would've survived if they were bigger and had a nicer eagle on the back. It was really odd still using half dollars to pay for things and having a coin worth twice as much only be a little bigger than a quarter, with its design the size of a nickel.

SBA's, and dollar coins in general, were doomed from the beginning.... between the continued printing of dollar bills and the diminutive size, there was no chance of general acceptance. Get rid on one and two dollar bills and see how fast they become standard fare. Cheers, RickO

I have a few of the 81P DDO quarters.
They are not hard to see once you know the PUPS.
Not the easiest to image, but here is what I can show.
The main PUP to me is the base of the T in LIBERTY. This one has the die dot on the 1second 1 in 1981 also.

Some coins are just plain "Interesting"
