Contemporary circulating counterfeit. Also not as worn as may seem, just a weak/crude type. The odd looking legends are the result of workers who are not familiar with the English language and Latin script in general.

For what it's worth, I find pieces like this far more interesting than their genuine counterpart :)

Highly enthusiastic about world coins, contemporary circulating counterfeits and unusual stuff <3

ya, i do as well, in general, for usa AND foreign coins. once a person is trained for the "look" they can, as i did here, pick out that something is amiss without having much knowledge about a particular series.

i appreciate the second opinion! i was only about 95% sure. that last 5% can be a big margin of unsurity at times.

although, i concede, i have no idea as to the scarcity or lack thereof for this type. first one i've seen but i only loosely dabble in non-usa coinage.

will whip out professional images in lieu of these iphone pics for posterity.

    thanks and God bless!

I don't believe these are particularly scarce as far as CCCs go. This is the fourth example I've seen in recent years, but I have not been searching for this type specifically. I know the Kann catalog lists the forgery types and should have some detailed info as well. Yours is a variation from others like it I've come across because it has an upside-down M in "MACE". From what I've seen it's worth somewhere between $50 and $100 to a specialist.
I also collect and research CCCs and actively look for them. Nice pick-up on this piece! (forgot to say that in my first reply) :)
