Research project, need input. Early proof Jefferson nickels

I need more proof
I've been doing a lot of visual research on the varieties of early Jefferson proofs 1938-1954. I have seen the stories told by the coins themselves, now I need the nitty gritty details.
I want to organize my research and get better background info. Someone here wrote a book recently about early proofs that covered some of the nickels in this era.
Who?
Can anyone direct me to good info about proof minting around 38-54? interest primarily focused on nickels and or related techniques.
I want to find out how many obverse dies per year, how often maintenance to proof dies was done, possible documentation of re engraved details?
Basically as much as possible.
No one has published or recognized more than a few varieties, which only scratched the surface of this subject.

School me!
Or point me in the right direction please.

Thanks
Rocco

Also looking for magnified clear images of these early Jeff proofs, or if anyone has any they would like to send for examination, and I'll reimburse shipping, or buy if possible, or I'll attribute/view and identify (if among published varieties) yours for free,

Roger Burdette has written some outstanding books on numismatics and this seems like a topic he may have covered.

I was looking for some information about early Jeffersons because the 1938-S step thread got me interested. I found this site which they made a couple trips to National Archives and digitized mint letters about early Jeffersons. It would be worth contacting them for their pdf and inviting them to this forum. PS, you probably would be interested in the Felix Schlag 1938 proof pages.

The new book "United States Proof Coins - 1936-1942" should be back from the printer in about a week and available from Wizard Coin Supply shortly thereafter. It should answer all your questions about minting proof Jefferson nickels as well as the other proofs of that period.

[Hope you enjoy the WW-II Pattern book!]

Is that your book? If so is it cheesy to ask for you to autograph it?

Ask for an autographed copy when you place your order. No extra charge, but might delay shipping a day or two depending on scheduling.
