Found in latest roll search.....

DBSTrader2DBSTrader2 Posts: 3,498 ✭✭✭✭

I recently re-started looking thru rolls of quarters from my bank in an attempt to fill a few holes in my niece's ATB quarters folders.

I just bring home 10 rolls at a time. The first time in a long while came right before the latest "snowstorm of the year" that under-delivered. I figured that if I was to be snowed-in, I might as well have something to look at.

That first search found me a few she needed, but not really anything else. So I turned the Q's back in at my other bank, got cash, and traded it for another 10 rolls to search at the first bank.

This time, I only found 1 more quarter she needed, BUT.................in an orange & white "String & Son" wrapped roll which contained a mix of eagle-back, state, & ATB quarters, I found........

......an amazing, mirror-like-finish PROOF 2006 North Dakota state quarter!! Shiny and un-marked like the day it was minted and put into a proof set! And the contrast between the mirror-like finish and the matte-finish buffalo on the reverse is unbelievable!

Went right into a 2x2, and made my day!

Wonder who, when, & why cracked it out.

TurboSnail: where do you work? LONG, LONG ago, I used to work as a retail manager, and always looked forward to going thru all the rolls as I set up the cash drawers, as well as all the change & bills at the end of the shifts/night. Back then, one could still find silver, wheaties, and even silver certificates, etc. I miss those days!

I used to run three retail (custom jewelry) stores by time square and now online menswear plus a liquor store in long island. During the past few years, I have cracked open bank rolls that contained some war-nickles, silver quarters and dimes. I would said nickles have the best odd for some strange reason.

As for pennies from bank rolls, I would said at least 1-2 wheaties per roll. And the oldest one was a 1909 lincoln without vdb. However my best coin was a indian penny (picture below) from an old lady with a pocket full with change.

As for silver certificates, I haven't seem one. But there are plenty of star notes range from $1- $100. the most common one are the 50's.

Nice find on the proof quarter.... I have seen them occasionally in change - the SHQ's I mean...They do stand out of the rest of the change... My guess is broken up proof sets by those seeking the half or another for albums or sending in for CAM... Cheers, RickO

Still surprised that, after cracking a proof set, the next step would just be to toss the other proof(s) into circulation....... unless the goal was to surprise an enthusiastic YN**.

By the way, as a side note, I failed to mention that I also managed to find & pull-out approx. 15 bicentennial quarters from the $200 total in rolls. So they're either still (or once again) out there!

I found an 1876 IHC in a roll back in the mid-70's. Nt as good condition as the one picture, unfortunately, but my oldest-dated find ever from circulation.
