Really Big PCGS Slab... without any coins in it! Haven't seen this one before... does it make cents?

Well... I guess it was part of the cent making process... even if it may not make sense to have it slabbed. I guess PCGS didn't actually grade this thing though Must have cost a nice premium to slab this though given the special holder size.
Saw this posted on Facebook earlier today so this is not mine and not my photos. Just hadn't seen a slab like this before and figured some here might have some fun seeing this as well.

But what does it GRADE??
In looking at it closer, looks to say PSA near the bottom of the slab. Looks like PCGS used one of the PSA/DNA holders that you see with larger sports items (cards, photos, tickets, checks, etc.)

Gargantuan slab.
How much did that cost to put the blank strip in the holder?

Holy Cow
"No Date".
Probably true for the collector that buys it.
How about: 5.75"(SPACE)X(SPACE)2.25"
Geez. Do it right for crying out loud. It's not like there isn't enough room for spaces.

That should come with wheels and a handle.
Cool.

Not to mention that they should have put the composition on the label too. I'm sure it's copper... but they should have put that on the label to avoid confusion on whether it might be the later copper-plated zinc metal.

Wow - now that is a strange slab!
Never thought I would see a PCGS slab that I didn't want. Glad it doesn't say "sample" on it.
I believe it's called jump the shark
That is an interesting slab.
You could get 20 cents in there, plus 8 more if they are 50% clipped planchets.
That would make an awesome cutting board for my kitchen. I want it!
That's an excellent point.

Copper or zinc?
Charmy would probably take it...for the right price.

I bet that holder cost a pretty penny..
It's a very cool item, but I don't think I would even want to know what it cost to slab.
It would cost even more if you had to send it in under their error service!

These do tend to turn up from time to time. Most frequently you will run across the strip used for 1943 steel cents. Sometimes you'll even run across unpunched strip.
I am a skeptic though, and I don't trust them to be authentic. Sure, you can weigh them, measure the diameter of the holes and the thickness of the strip, and test the compostion. But, these are easily replicated details. Probably not worth the effort of worrying about though, I suppose.
It's actually strange that it wasn't sent in under the error service! Wonder if that means an error expert didn't examine it?
zinc blanks are punched then plated
RB!
standard for the holder just means it is not a secure holder
A nice piece for the exonumia collector....we have blank planchets, why not planchet blanks??
Cheers, RickO
I like that they slabbed it.

It will prevent circulation wear.

If it were zinc it would be a white color. The copper plating is added to the planchets.
