What a cool story. I wonder what color they would turn using MS70?

This is what is so wonderful about coins. These emperors were from the glory days of Byzantium, and the find signals extraordinary times. The stories the coins could tell!
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...
Great find and associated story.... such a historically rich area... and so many treasures yet to be found... Cheers, RickO
I have often wondered why the quality of art on Roman coins deteriorated as badly as it did. At the time these coins were struck the Eastern Roman Empire was still very viable and would more or less remain so for hundreds of more years. There should have still been enough skilled artisans left to have produced a better product than what was seen on coins of this era.
They actually had civil war and many, many problems during this era more or less on an ongoing basis. These bronzes, which had relatively low value at the time, were struck off in the millions (by hand!). The gold coinage was somewhat better struck in detail and quality.
Well, just Love coins, period.
Some will be on e-Bay soon, listed as the "Einbikumakube Horde"
