Ebay sellers who use ebay shipping,Check your paypal account on March 7th

amwldcoinamwldcoin Posts: 11,269 ✭✭✭✭✭

Ebay had a glitch and charged me shipping for 5 shipments I did not make. Filed a claim with paypal an hour after the charges were made. Received an email denying my claims a little while ago. I just got off the phone with paypal and they are now returning the funds to my account.

Wish I could charge ebay for the couple hours I had to waste to get my twenty some odd dollars back!

You can check the tracking number and see if they all originated from the same location - that is not good - software problem or hacked somehow?

No problem here either. This may be an issue with only your account.

Actually the paypal rep said I was not the 1st to call in with this issue and expected a busy day. Assured me my account wasn't hacked and removed the autopay from my account for ebay shipping.

    QUESTION!?!
Does it save much money doing postage through eBay?

    Background
I always take all my orders in hand to post office and scan each tracking number in. The people at my local are nice.

    Reason
I'm too cheap to buy sticker paper for printer, don't even have a computer, and don't trust the weight.

Err on the side of caution
I want to avoid ever having postage due to the recipient.
I have bought 4 packages in the last 5 years that I had to pay $0.21-$9.75 as a result of inadequate postage. An embarrassing situation for those sellers I am sure.

Yes, you get fairly significant discounts on USPS shipping rates when using ebay shipping. You also automatically get insurance coverage of up to $100 for Priority which is otherwise $50 in most cases.

    All good here..

Sent out two small flat rate boxes on monday. Postage on one I printed using eBay shipping was $6.25 took the other to the post office and paid $7.15 for it. So yes staying at home and shipping pays.

In at least 12 years of using PayPal or Endicia for labels, I've never had a package arrive postage due, and the savings on postage have certainly amounted to thousands of dollars. Plus, I only stand in line to send registered mail, and that saves me an enormous amount of time. Not to mention I don't have to hand write any tracking numbers in, or hand write any addresses, which is certainly an error-prone task.

If one weighs the package properly, there's no reason for a postage due. I once received a package from a board member where the clerk mused over the amount, but never charged me. She just said that the sending PO shouldn't have accepted the package as it was.

For my packages, you get about 2 cents of saving. Not really a ton, but it helps cover the paper/ink/tape. Someone mentioned it includes free tracking, but tracking comes included with all shipments now anyways.

I save about a buck on any priority mail package I ship. Plus you get the extra $50 worth of insurance (for $100 total) free of charge. Not sure what savings are for first class packages.

I had an issue around that time where I was slow-rolled with the PayPal charges for the stuff I shipped, but I was only charged once. I shipped a bunch of items and the PayPal charge notifications trickled in over the next few days.

First class would probably be cheaper for you. Cost me $2.61 first class (ebay savings was 6 cents, not 2, oops), and the cheapest priority was about $6.38. Even if you pay for $100 insurance on the first class you come out cheaper (and I self insure, so save the difference, and pay out of pocket in the rare instance something gets lost).

First class is cheaper but I use priority mail for anything over $100 and have had fewer issues with priority mail vs first class, but I suppose everyone's experience is relative. My lowest price for non-flat rate priority mail using ebay shipping is $5.85.

I usually pay $2.67 at the counter for first class, or I ship priority for items over $80 in value.
I don't use insurance and priority usually costs $6.85-7.15
Because I am trying to be environmentally friendly, I re use all mailers that I receive or cut them down into two.
And I buy clear tape for $0.99 a roll to seal everything.

I figure with the money i save with not having/ buying a computer, printer, ink, mailers, and labels... almost evens things up for me?
Also 9/10 when I'm in line at the post office, I get another order! Maybe it's a good luck charm?

It saves a ton of money to print through Ebay. If you are a Top rated seller you save even more. I let my Top rated status lapse because I fell below 100 tranactions due to a few months of non selling and I really noticed the difference.

The discounts on international postage were over 40% to some destinations :s

printing your own labels allows you to avoid a trip to the PO. Since I have to have a PO acceptance scan within 24 hrs of sale to keep my top rated seller discount, I asked my mailman to scan any outgoing barcode labels i leave for him in the mailbox. He said, "no problemo." Otherwise a trip to the PO is required to ask for an "acceptance scan" at the counter.

My carrier scans it in right away too without asking, but I don't think that every carrier has one of those state of the art scanners.

No, since I'm usually here and put it out shortly before he arrives. Often within an hour it shows as having left the PO.

I use paypal for international shipping because they have the large envelope option which ebay does not. It is much cheaper than ebay(ebay only has the package option). I occasionally use paypal for US shipping when eBay's system is acting up.

They both use the same provider Pitney-Bowes I believe. I don't sell on eBay, but it would seem that eBay uploading tracking info to your listing is more reliable.

FWIW even if you don't have a PP or eBay transaction or use PPFF/gift, you can still print labels at www.paypal.com/shipnow.
Course you gotta pay mit PP.

    FYI

I will point out something I've noticed lately.
Sellers uploading tracking through PayPal, it doesn't always transfer. In the last 6 weeks I've had about 4 packs delivered to me with no tracking info on eBay.
    They came with numbers too.
I contacted two sellers to let them know, because eBay metrics are damaged when not shipped on time. And when no tracking number is uploaded.
I was told by the sellers they added it through PayPal.
Just a word of caution to be sure eBay has your info.
Thanks for the advice everyone. :)

You can also drop mail in any mailbox, whether it's at a closed Post Office or any blue box elsewhere. This week has been torture since I had bulky items and had to go to the PO on Monday and Tuesday. That's the most I've been to the PO in a week in months.
