Some coins are stupid expensive (per gram)

I was recently pondering something my wife said. "Why would anyone spend more than a penny for a penny?" I don't dare tell her once I spent around 75,000 times face value for a half-dime.
Then I started thinking what it cost per gram. A half dime weights 1.35g (when minted). This works out to about $2,800/g.
Gold sells for around $39/g, silver for $0.55/g, rhino horn for $110/g, LSD for $3,000/g and plutonium for $4,000/g. Tritium (used for the glow-in-the-dark bits of some rifle scopes, exit signs, watches, etc) goes for $30,000/g. The medication Xiaflex retails for about $30,000/g.
The $10M paid for the 1794 FH dollar works out to a staggering $370,000/g.

Wonder how she feels about the price of diamonds?
It costs me about $1 billion/g for polonium these days, that is retail though.
The colors on the half dime must have been psychedelic.
Pricing is all relative..... and only a reflection of demand..... If no one wants it, it is cheap... check out belly button lint.... not a lot around (though some people save it), but no one is buying it.... check ebay...no belly button lint listed...
