The truth is out there!

Have we discussed this little "gem" before? The source article is from a pretty unreliable site, citing that this coin with a handful of others was found during house renovations in South Egypt. No images of the reverse or any additional information provided. The inscription "opportunus adest" translates to "It is here at an opportune time" or "It will appear in the opportune time". The same inscription can be seen on a French jeton from 1680's that was already discussed on these forums a while back. (The jeton with a UFO on it or, more likely, a Biblical Ezekiel's wheel).

Thoughts?

Here's the French Jeton with the same inscription:

It's definitely a depiction of an alien

Dang! It sure looks original. If fake, it's well done.

I don't believe in little green men but interestingly there is a supposed account from 1500 BC Egypt of flying "saucers".

    It's a modern token

A better option would have been: "First image is a Photoshopped picture of a Bithynian provincial coin/medallion or later cast thereof."

This one is real and not altered:

    image
    Byzantine Justinian Copper Follis

Obverse: Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right / D N IVSTINI-ANVS PP AVG
Reverse: Large letter M, star left, cross top, cross right, G under large M, CON in exergue
    Bronze, 30mm, 17.98gm
    Catalog: Sear 158
    Struck: AD 527-538 Constantinople

I bought this coin because the obverse looked like a space alien.
    And not a nice one.

    :)

Josh, was so focused on this being in a "news" article that i completely disregarded image manipulation as an option!

But does it have a James Forrestal pedigree?

    It's an ancient hobo carving

:) Looks like something from an episode of the X files. The big question is will it slab and who is qualified to assign the grade.
