EBay Live Auction event ???

I was browsing coins on Ebay and a few listings came up that were part of this new thing , the live auction event.
It appears that these break most every ebay seller rule . No shipping specified , if you click on shipping it says its specified in the description but it is not . Then there is a ridiculous 23% buyers premium , does this include the unspecified shipping cost?

The additional 23% is what immediately turned me off. I have not bothered looking to it after reading that.

you have to sign up beyond being an ebay member apparently. You will get a shipping quote 3 days after the auction ends, isn't that special.
23%? That's way the heck up there. I'll pass without out even looking.
They had those about 15 years ago, then discontinued them.
These have been around for quite some time.
It's basically how they are integrating online auction venues and in-person auctions in order to get more eyes and realize more $$$. This is no different than any other non-eBay auction, basically.
Be really, really, really careful - and read the listing. Some of them don't ship. It's local pickup only.
Oh, but we have a deal with the local UPS store. AFTER your payment clears, you can have them pickup, pack and ship your winnings... for a (small) fee, of course.

Haven't used this one but I found another one time just backed my bid off the sellers fee and somewhere on his site I found he used Priorty flat rate and factored that in, got what I wanted. Good luck if you go after it.
Most of what I have seen with these type of auctions is that the items go for more than what they are worth and then the BP is added to that, which makes the final price just plain stupid.

"The buyer's premium
The buyer's premium is a fee paid to the auction house in addition to the winning bid amount. This fee, a percentage of the winning bid amount, usually ranges from 0% to 30% "
Gee, where do I sign up.
LIVE AUCTIONS ARE HERE.
YOU'RE INVITED. Just received ebay email. Suppose it's something to consider . http://pages.ebay.com/live-auctions/about.html
and they are back.
supposedly Sotheby's is also offering items. although they may have stopped. I have not seen a Sotheby's event advertised in a while.
and I suspect there are undisclosed reserves as well as suspecting tree bids at the live auction site.
A couple of the sellers I have seen, are just retailers bidding up their inventory looking for a buyer, especially if they are won by 'onsite bidder'.
Live auctions on the Bay been around for last couple of years ..after seeing the juice of 25 % .. took the pass

23% buyers fee???? No flippin' way....

so the lot finished up at $140 , the estimate was 200-400 , this is interesting. With a 23% premium plus unspecified shipping it could be $200.
Are the coins worth it? its not easy to tell from the pictures , if you mouse over the pic it doesn't magnify , which is odd because its easy enough to upload a picture that will do that even with a cellphone camera
Could be worth it for a nice monster toner ricko
the market will weed out such sellers
