1969 D nickel off center full steps 1/2 reverse showing

My coin dealer told me about a find he has. 69 d with Full Steps. Catch is that it's off center Strike and only half of Monticello is visible.
I'll going to get pics for us all,
But he was wondering how best to sell/submit it. Error wth 1/2 Full Steps? Sell it raw?
Advise and input?
Pics coming!
As a preemptive, Yes this thread is useless without pics!

If it were submitted to PCGS on the regular
Mint Error tier, I don't believe it would
get any 'step' designation.
It's possible if the submitter asks for it
specially on the form and/or the submission
flip - you might want to contact PCGS to
see if they would do a 'stepped off center nickel'
Full step and near-full step nickels of these rare dates may actually be more common with off center and broadstruck coins. Something about the pressures and metal flow of these error strikes can cause the details in the steps to strike up.
This.
That would look good in a slab with FS.... very unique.... a strong selling point to error collectors. Cheers, RickO
nice error, i like
Exactly this. The reason is because there is less metal between the dies when the planchet is not centered, which means less resistance to the force of the dies coming together. As a result an off center coin tends to be very well struck. I have seen off center 1953-S and 1954-S nickels with tremendous steps, which are almost never seen on normal strikes for those dates.

I like it.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
It's the same way with the 1945 Merc.. They usually have FB's when off center.
I'd have an issue giving FS to a coin with only half of the steps present.
However, the label designation would not be required if good pics are used to sell it. Also, I know I'd call it a "full right half steps" or some such just because I'd love it so much. They are really well formed.
The recent 1954 S full step thread reminded me of this one

I have seen the same for O/C Roosevelt dimes. I seen 1 recently that had only the bottom bands and was about 75% O/C and had razor sharp full split and round bands. Best I've seen.
My personal opinion is that PCGS should designate FB, FS, FH, etc. on these hammered O/C's. Y knot?

Here's an off-centered 1949 with 6 steps. It seems whenever there's less of a planchet area/size to absorb/withstand the full tonnage applied, it was actually much greater, the metal flow will reach (get squeezed into) the step area of the reverse die. Less tonnage is used for dimes than used for nickels, same principle.
steps
I also once owned a 1969-D that was struck on a proof planchet, had a lot of step lines showing for the 4th to 6th steps. Even the thicker planchet couldn't bring out full steps.
Very interesting coin posted.

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!
My Jefferson Nickel Collection
Sweet !!!
Nice error. I suppose if you're going to have an off center strike on a Jefferson, what better date to have a glimpse of what a FS may have looked liked. Sort of like a fantasy, struck in reality, yet, not complete, and something you'll never have. If steps were complete across, and full on off-center, I'd say you'd have something. Since not- a very cool error! JMO.
That’s a sweet nickel!

I'm new to the forum. This is the first forum I've ever been on so bare with me. I was looking around on here and seen this and I'm in the same situation with a 1969 D Offcenter Jefferson Nickel. I'm not apart of any groups/grading companies. Any advice on it would be great. As soon as I can figure this out I will post some pictures and you guys can chime in and tell me what i have
Since I'm new I guess the pics will appear once approved
