New coin for my collection and new lights to image my new coin.

Here's one I picked up recently. Yea it's raw but I think it's beautiful and weird too because it's like blemish free.

Thanks for looking and happy hunting, Joe

Nice pics. I don't think I have ever seen that color pink before.

I'm still messing with the lights. Here a couple of more.

GREAT Coin, Joe. I like the third image the best. What is your new light set up?

Is this 1 down and 53 to go???????? Toned IHC's can be addictive.

They're 3 tiny high power output lights . I need to do some trial and error processes before I get my images right as I do everything manually..
    Thanks

Can you tell me more about the lights you are using? I'd like to try them out.

Yes, and how are they set up? Gooseneck style or something else?

I think the best thing for me to do is take a picture of my setup. I'm on the road but when I return I'll do that.

Woo Hoo...can't wait to hear more from one who does a great job at imaging.

The new lights are from IKEA if you can believe it. I have a couple of shutterbug friends that recommended these. I just got them and I'm more than sure it'll take me some time to work out the bugs but I can tell I'm on the right track. You can also see my camera box and lens I use not the mention the most ridged copy stand you'll ever need for the job. The lens is a Sigma 150mm F2.8 Macro. My camera is a Nikon D3100 and I love it. I do believe that imaging and coin collecting go pretty well together. It's a hobby within a hobby and I really enjoy both.
    Happy hunting, Joe

LOT'S of light Joe. I have a similar set up, but have found the I need to use light diffusers on my Jansjo lights. I even have a colored LED light to infuse special color for the members of this forum.......when things get boring.

Here's a slab shot with very little effort. I might also add this is a pretty little Franklin proof that caught my eye so I bought it.

Compact fluorescent light images are the third from the top. I shouldn't have even post these images yet as I just took em outta the box. I have some work to do with these yet.

Hey Joe, if you have any of the square type half dollar plastic tubes, the caps from those fit nice and tight over the Jansjo lights from Ikea. They will help diffuse the light and make it not so harsh. It will also get rid of the RGB specs you get in your specular highlights.

Thank you bud! I do have many of those caps and I'm sure at this point I'm late to the party with these lights :D

I gave up on those Ikea lights and tossed them. Same for CFL's. But other guys have found ways to make them work, I'm sure.

I'll stick with halogen floods. They work best for me.

Are you able to put more distance between the camera (and lights) and the coin, Joe? I typically raise it 20-24". That really helps to get lights vertical which brings out the color and spreads lighting.

Here's an IHC that reminds me a little of yours. I picked it up from David Kahn for a song.

Agreed. Way more trouble than I thought they would be. I keep trying to improve my imaging but I know now this is not the way to go. I compare the results of the images from my old setup to these new lights and it's not worth the trouble. And I mean trouble. They don't stay put and put out some strange light spectrum that I'm not familiar with so, more things to deal with. I never image with any lights this close. I'm with you I keep em at least 18" from the coin I'm imaging.
By the way I like that Indian cent your showing.

Not a proof but it sure is free of hits or any other abrations . It lacks the reflection that a proof produces.
