Hi guys, Here's my quick take on what I thought of the Show. I spent approx. 5 hours there and checked out all the tables. Here's my opinion, pretty cool! As usual, a vast amount of whatever a coin collector is looking for. The Dealers seem to be more kinder and generous than most Shows. As a matter of fact, to me, most tables were sort of desperate to make some sort of deal. Meaning, most offers were really good for the asking. The only stick in the mud, that always happens at these Shows is that you see the same faces and majority of the same products from Dealers. Other than that, the Show was well interesting by the many Beautiful array of fantastic coins. Some were so rare with the grades and by the prices, you know they were unique! I sold some stuff that I been holding on for years. Satisfied getting what I got for them as well. As a matter of fact, I picked up more money than I first thought I would. At the same time I Cherry Picked a hard to find Proof set (1998 Proof Set, " Close A.M. Cent) also, a great deal on some mixed Wheaties for a low price, 500 for $12. Later, I'll go through them and let you guys know If I found anything of importance. I'm going back tomorrow! Oh well, that's my quick rundown on day one. If you're in the area tomorrow, come on in and check it out! See ya guys.
One More Thing... I started another thread concerning my Cherry pick of the 1998 Proof Set.Cent ;)

    Nice pick!
It's interesting to hear that the dealers seemed kinder and ready to deal. When I went last year, it did not seem that way. I was able to sell a few coins for reasonable prices, but I could not find any decent deals. The prices seemed high retail (at least for the items I asked about: Morgans, Classic Commems, some toned coins, and a Mercury dime in a David Hall flip). There was one dealer that I recall being quite nice about a coin I was looking to sell. He politely told me he wasn't a toning guy but pointed out the location of another dealer that did specialize in toners. Another thing that I noticed was that there was very little interest in nicely toned coins in small white Anacs holders. Every dealer I asked passed on these coins (I don't think my asking prices were that high since all of these coins sold on ebay within the next few months for a decent amount above my asking price even after fees). Another interesting thing was that I was able to sell an ACG slab (this one was optimistically graded by ACG but was still a decent coin if one subtracted a grade and a designation).

I might consider the Tinley Park show again, but in general Central States seems to be the best of the Illinois shows (at least in the years that the ANA World's Fair of Money is not here).

Thanks for an interesting report. Nice to hear positive comments about the dealers. Most coin shows I went to in WA state were similar, with friendly dealers and willing to deal a bit. Of course, there were the few dealers who were always surly, with overpriced coins and no dealing... I learned to avoid them. This sounds like a good show and worth attending each year... Cheers, RickO

Thanks RickO. At this moment, I'm ready to venture out for day 2! Maybe, looking to buy more of the great deal from the guy that selling Wheaties at a price of 500 for $12. Also, seeking again for those profitable Cherrys. Maybe this time I'll find an Abe that knows how to wipe his nose. :D
