1959 is a tough year for DCAM proofs

Years ago I saw a 1959 Franklin PR68 CAM on eBay with a $500 BIN.
I bought it, but when I went to check out it said someone else bought it, so I missed it by seconds.
Later I saw Rick Tomaska had it listed for substantially more. Lucybop posted a thread here asking if she should buy it so she was really late.

This 1959 PR69 DCAM quarter on eBay is pretty high, but there is no price guide price. I hope the spots are on the holder.

That coin sold in a recent Heritage auction. Check it out over there for pricing history, etc. Not sure exactly why PCGS did not price the coin based upon the Heritage auction record.

The same coin sold in January for $9987 at HA I see it's a POP 1/0. A much better picture there.
If the price guide showed $10k, the guy would have a hard time selling it for $13k.
On eBay it would cost $627 in seller fees ($250 for eBay and $377 for PP)

Does PCGS update the price guide on the sale of a POP 1 coin?

A NGC PF69 UCAM sold for $2585 last week. At NGC it's a POP 7/0.

Man you could make a fortune cracking out NGC 69 UCAM's and getting them in PCGS holders.
    It's an expensive gamble though.

8/10 or 9/10 I suspect PCGS might have picked up on the Heritage auction price to then price the pop 1 coin. Not sure why they did not do it this time. The PR68DCAM coin has now gone down to about a $600 coin making this one point upgrade have a price tag of about 20x. A little too pricey for me (even with the #2 1936-1964 proof quarter set, as my passion is still the Mint State Washington quarters dated 1932-date of course). But the owner (not sure if the eBay seller is the owner or not) is a really nice guy and I would not rule out possibly buying the coin down the road if it is available just to give him some business :)

That is one expensive Washington quarter... minted the year I graduated high school.... and joined the Navy.... a memorable year for me... but not worth that much. :) Cheers, RickO

Wow, relative values, it seems would get a lot more interesting coin(s).

That's a lotta coin...both the sticker price and what's in the holder!

From the photos, it appears the fields are much nicer on the NGC coin than the PCGS coin. I suppose thats the plastic effect though.

I saw both coins in hand and they each have their positives and negatives. Obviously, on top of that, the roughly $10,000 recent auction sales price on the PCGS coin netted that consignor perhaps $8,500 - $9,000. That's still more than triple the NGC price level so good for him. But, quite a bit away from $13,000. Just my two cents. Wondercoin.

Time to pop open those unopened 1959 sets I have in some box.
