I needed the last and most difficult coin for the year 1935-----the 1935-S. The year 1935 is such an important year, in the Walker series, and besides the 1934-S, the 1935-S is the toughest issue in the middle to late date years (1934-1947) both in overall and high grade (MS 65 or better) mint state rarity.
I really liked the strike of this MS 65 piece. I think it is quite smooth, too. It appears to have great luster and frost. I expect that the luster will be booming, in hand, as HA photos tend to make the luster look 'washed out'. This one does not have a bean but I certainly like it.
The strike is better than the OGH MS 66 that sold in the same auction for 50% more and the surface preservation is just about as good, imho. I think that someone paid up for the green holder. Another MS 66 sold for a lot less (same price as my 65) than the OGH did but it was inferior, imho. I took my own advice and I bought the coin and not the number on the holder. Although some recent 65s have sold for less; I still feel that I did well, as I like this example and thought that it was of better or equal quality to the MS 66s.
I think it is an awesome time to be a Walker collector in this down market.
Thoughts and opinions always welcome.

Your coin is equal or superior to the MS66 OGH coin. I can see why the OGH coin did not CAC, and am guessing it would have been sent in.
It may seem like a down market but these coins sold for full retail price, or a little more!
A lovely coin and I think yours belongs in a 66 holder.
Wow - a very impressive 35S walker!!
I also think the zoomed out Heritage image shows nice luster on your coin!

Thanks!

Very nice 1935-S
Beautiful Walker - seriously....a very nice pickup.
Nothing wrong with that one, excellent pickup! That is a very tough date to find nice, even the cents were terrible for that year and mint. The 34-S is tough and pricey too, but the 34-S seems to come better struck than the 35-S, at least from what I've seen.

I like it- looks comparable to some of my graded MS66's in different years / mints. Also, I think the approach you took is quite astute, and given your knowledge with this series I'd say your intuition served you well. Very nice!

Erik--you are absolutely correct. I think that the 34-S usually comes much better struck than the 1935-S (and 1935-D for that matter). The difference lies in the surface preservation, as even a choice MS 63 1934-S will be at least moderately to sometimes heavily abraded. A smooth 1934-S is a rare find, so that's why gems and beyond are so pricey.

I agree with all the others here. Very nice pickup. I'm sure it will have nice booming luster in hand.
I agree about the 35-s and a great pick up!!!

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
Nice strike. Good head. Clear/clean fields. Looks like lots of luster. Very eye appealing. I would suspect the 65 is due to the rim mark, as the rest of the coin on both sides looks strong. EDIT: I should also state that Liberty's hip looks really clean as well. A lot of noise on the hip in the center of the obverse can be distracting.
Wonderful example. Congratulations.
Okay, that looks better than 65. A tough and underrated date.

That is a VERY nice Walker... I agree with the general assessment here... looks better than a 65... nice detail, luster... very clean. Congratulations... Cheers, RickO
Nice Walker, and would be an excellent example for the Type. There is just something about 1930's Walkers.
