Nice coin - look redder than mine! (81470277) which begs the question - why not 66RD?

Really ......If that isn't red, what is ?

Thanks Larry, it seems a lot of people are already placing their tag bids on it. This is should be a fun ride! Wish I could make it out there to watch the sale in person though.

Nice coin and I will be tuning in to see the action, although from the sidelines on this one.

So you consigned a coin with $75K+ potential, and Stack's didn't offer you a plane ticket to the sale ?

    Great find,

When I first looked at the photos, I questioned whether it was a genuine 09VDB proof
The first pick up point is the die scratch from the back of the shoulder to under the T of LIBERTY, I saw faint traces, but thought that it might have been hidden in the toning on the left side.
The parallel die scratches in front of the nose, with one from the bottom of the nose were there, but did not see the intersecting die scratch, but all die scratches in front of the nose were weaker than normal. Perhaps also this is due to the photograph and lighting.
Saw several die markers around VDB that are on the proof.
Started to compare the die markers to the die markers on the 09 VDB proofs on PCGS coin facts, such as the
doubling on top of the WE on the obverse, several scratches on the bottom left side of the reverse, several scratches
on the inside of the O of ONE, all matched up.

The inside rim did not appear as wired as seen on most of the 09 VDB proofs I have seen.

Many nice early coins struck for circulation also have a semi granular surface, which makes it difficult to use this
    as a defining criteria.

Since I published my LCMP book in 2009, the 1909 VDB is the most common coin that is sent to me to see if it is a proof,
each time, it was not. This is definitely a proof, but I can see how it might have been skipped over, especially with the die scratch on the shoulder not easily seen

I just read that on all 1909 VDB Proofs the period between the "D" and "B" is centered between the two letters. Can anyone confirm this?

Also, the poster wrote that the period is centered on some business strike dies so it is not a completely reliable diagnostic - just one more characteristic to look for on a Proof.

Thanks Kevin. I think you called me during February's Long Beach show to congratulate me if memory serves. I've since received a ton messages from the MPL cartel telling me how awesome this find was and how they can't believe someone finally actually found one in the wild. While I'm not a Lincoln guy I am a variety nut with a keen eye for detail. This guy wasn't getting past me
