I think he does various private issues for coin clubs. Carr is given carte Blanche in regards to design. This is Merlin themed. This is 2016 Knights of the Coin Table. They are super interesting in hand.

Hopefully Mike or Dan will come around and add or correct anything stated above.

Man, these are pretty cool. This one will be in my hands by Tuesday, it's the 39mm Silver Satin. Only 35 made, here it be.

I tried to make one and it doesn't work very well. Mike Kittle posted a video that shows the hologram effect much better.

The video is in this threadhttps://forums.collectors.com/discussion/comment/11643035

Yup. Very cool indeed JB. Thanks for doing it. Its awesome. Looks like he's charging up his spell then throwing it then it resets. Very mesmerizing.

I think the holograms are all slightly different so anyone who wants one of theirs done hit messydesk up! You won't be disappointed

Some of the best imaging I've seen in a longtime. Hats off to you my man, messydesk ;)

Dan basically never sells coin club medals on his site . A rare exception would be currently the Front Range Coin Club medals he is currently offering.

Knights of the Coin Table was always a very small group and release , so I'm wondering how Mike was able to acquire so many types and variations.
If it's simply a matter of joining the KOTCT online and paying a membership fee then I would love to know how for future years preorders.

All of my KOTCT issues I had to get on the secondary market (eBay) as Dan never sold these direct, so you would have to be a member of the club .
Same with Hobos and all of the various clubs . If your not a member and get in a preorder then you can only hope to get them through the Treasurer or members that bought extras .

Very cool design this year and last for sure

CC, maybe we should start a Knights of The Carr Club and make it also by invitation only .

Mike Kittle is a member of KotCT and he placed his order like all the other members (and then had to wait quite a while until I finally finished them). There were no limits on how many an individual member could order. Members were given quite a few different choices on what they wanted to order: silver/copper/brass; proof-like/satin/antiqued; un-toned/color-toned; selective plating; over-strike on large dollar coin. There were 27 different possible combinations. Some combinations had zero orders (so none of those were made).

As for becoming a member of KTotCT, I'm not sure how that works or if an invitation is necessary.

So then it's not by invitation only ??

Just to clarify, I didn't really end up with that many types and variations of these 2016 KOTCT medals. As a KOTCT member, I was invited to place an order for medals this year. There were a total of 27 different types of medals produced for 2016 (according to the mintage stats kept by Dan), copper, brass, silver, overstrikes, plated, toned, antiqued, etc. I think I only ordered 9 of those types and only ordered duplicates of some.

When we placed our orders and paid for these, we only had a sketch of the design provided and really didn't know exactly how the final product would look. The hologram effect on these medals was added by Dan and was an idea he came up with after we all ordered and was a pleasant surprise to us. They ended up much better looking than I thought and if I knew exactly how cool they would turn out, I would have easily ordered double or triple what I had ordered :)

    :+1:

  • nk1nknk1nk Posts: 476 ✭✭✭✭

I agree with Illini, if I had just seen a sketch of the coin I wouldn't have been that interested and even after seeing a picture of one I was like eh, it's ok I guess but after the video of one I thought they were very cool and luckily I found one on eBay, should be here any day and I can't wait to see it in hand. I'm coming to appreciate dans complete works and not just the mainstream popular overstrikes. Keep up the good work Dan.

A side question I'm curious about, does Dan charge the club a design or production fee or just makes his money off the sales to members?

There are set up and design fees depending on many factors .

As a relatively new KOTCT "knight" I have found that I have much to learn . . . . .

I just today received a gift from an "esteemed Knight" of the following. I did not know they existed before. I wasn't around in 2013 or 2015 when these were engraved by the Wizard of KOTCT Banknotes. I am really excited to have found these, and been gifted the latter. I am not sure the benefactor of these banknotes is even a member of this site, but here is where my research led me.

There seems to have been a falling away of the Knights earlier this year. I cannot comment on that one way or the other, but I feel the uni-space is a lesser place for it.

Are there any Knights left standing?
