Do my eyes deceive? Do they both have blue?
Blue indeed.

That title threw me. As a Registry Set collector of $3 gold coins I was stunned to learn I had missed the 1981-S $3.
Nice set, and great to see you back actively posting.
Cameo contrast is looking good!
And the mint mark is, Type I or Type II ?

Never mind, I see the mint mark in the center of the entire image DOH!

sweet
Or a Carr piece.
I love the toning. Type II?
You really captured the beauty of those in your photo collage.
Who'd have thought you could have such fun with a 1981 proof set?

My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
I believe it is.

Nice pick-up - especially for the type II
I must confess.
I love varieties and have been looking for them since the mid-to late 1980s, before they were "hot."
When I was 10 years old in 1972, my grandmother who lived on the east coast sent me a BU 1972 Ike. I noticed right away that there was something unusual about the reverse.....couldn't put my finger on it but knew it was something.......so put the coin away for years.....and yes it was a Type 2.....but as far as these 81-S...????? I will never "get it."
The 1981-S T2 is one that I can't wrap my head around no matter how many people have shown me the PUPs, diagnostics, etc.
I can spot a monor variety in a case without a loupe but as far as the 81-S Ty2's go.....I'll let someone else have all the fun with these.
Excellent Pickup for the Price......Congrats
I used to be famous now I just collect coins.
