Nice story rickO, thanks for posting.
Great story.
Side note - the local news station that reported it, WPSD 6, is in the town where I was born and raised...Paducah, Kentucky.
Nice ending, even though it was 45 years later.
They make no mention of what the coins were valued at?

Nice story. I wonder if the guy even still collects.
Very cool.

I don't know, call me a cynic, but unless there are more details to this story then it just doesn't add up for me. I mean, the police enter a suspected drug dealer's home and find a stash of coins and tokens laying there (somewhere) and presume that it is the contents of a single collection and that the owner(s) of the collection would be able to identify it? I guess if there was a record of the theft filed in 1972 that had a list of items taken it would have made the match much easier, but nothing to that effect was mentioned in the article. I just don't see this tying up so neatly as the article describes.

TomB, you're a cynic. You do have point though.

Sweet!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
It's a very unlikely story, but congrats to the owner! Not sure why the collection was not disposed of or, at least, spent at face value.
way cool and great story, i like
Thanks for sharing. Yes usually druggies dispose of their loot right away in some pawnshop or what have you for a fraction of what its really worth. This one must have been a coin collector. But either way very happy here that the family recovered what is rightfully theirs.

It is interesting that the collection's owner was identified by a dog tag that was found with the stolen coins.
Maybe we all should leave dog tags or engraved coins with collections.

A kids collection kept intact for 45 years?
No suspect named and well beyond the statue of limitations. Hmmm....
Super.
very good ending to such a story

If we were all the same, the world would be an incredibly boring place.

I tend to agree with TomB. I suspect there is a lot more to this story than the wpsdlocal6 article tells. Either typically shallow reporting or overzealous editing.
Not much in the way of high value in that group from what a quick read showed.
Thanks for posting, Rick. What a great ending to a story.
Cheers

Yeah, Great Story, alright! The best part was the dog tag, I think.

Would be fun to find a high-relief 22 Peace dollar, 1955 DDO, or something similar......

Great story, Ricko. Although it does sound improbable, it is nice to know that miracles often do happen.
