There is a small tic to the right of the third column that might prevent a full step designation. Bottom step under first column as well. Need 5 uninterrupted steps.

As far as I know, PCGS doesn't FS SMS...oops....."SP" coins.
At least not the 1965-67 years.
But if they did, I think your coin would get FS about 60-75% of the time.
FS designations can be really frustrating.
I have seen some that were really questionable.

Those steps look fine although full steps on the SMS can be a tedious search. What evades/escapes my mind, assuming SMS dies were used to strike some of the circulating coins why no steps? And as a reminder, they did improve the steps for the 1967 SMS coins. There is another thought on this but it just doesn't make any sense......as I have read somewhere, but not for the business strikes.

Thanks. Ever check some of the SMS Nickels for the Steps, most are in pretty bad shape. Almost, to the point that they look Circulated. Hard to believe the look of some of these SMS Steps? How in the world would the Steps be so beat up? Makes you wonder?

nice step detail but PCGS/NGC don't assign the designation to the issues. without the gouge on step five it would be a six stepper.

    +1

I understand that there is some subjectivity in designating steps (especially when graders have ~15 seconds to make a determination), but I've seen MANY that really make me wonder...NEVER buy the label!

Thanks guys in all your determinations. You taught me something today! Once again, we're here at our school to learn, right?
