There is certainly a cachet and (depending upon the consumer) a premium. Most that I see have been BuffNix, and the coin here is certainly premium in my opinion and quite deserving of the grade.
I have paid a premium for the David Hall flips in the past . . .and would continue to do so as (in my opinion) they have a substantial part of our numismatic and certification 'past'. I enjoy that part of our hobby (as many know), and although I hope to someday aspire to be a numismatist, I can always pose as a slab historian in the meantime!
I respect the traditional numismatists who punched coins into Wayte Raymond and Oberwise binders, and of course, I collect those binders too . . . but the revolution from 1984-present (thanks Astro and the rest of you who did so much to start us on this path) has taken the hobby to a dramatically new level. You may like it, or you may see the certification services as deleterious to our hobby, but to me, the flip shown here, and the following editions all through our current time, have been an indelible part of the hobby.
Cool coin. Cool holder. I'm not savvy to the current market thinking for these, but I'd certainly pay more than the customary MS65DMPL price for this, assuming I agree with the grade. Looks pretty nice in the photos.
I guess that was what I was thinking. I saw these as links in the grading/slabbing evolution. The flips are sealed providing a degree of assurance that the coin is the one that David graded and put inside.
Of the five or six that I have, all but one are Morgans. The other is a very nice 1937 proof Walker.
If you're wondering if they have any value, offer them to me or Drunner.

Yup. We'll be glad to help out on a verifiable value. He has perhaps deeper pockets . . . . . but I may have a better short game. I am thinking putting . . . .is a wash.
Not so sure putting is a push with my pencil grip and new custom fit Edel putter.......

With DH, HRH being one of the main brains behind quality coins with his word worth its weight in gold, these have to be worth a big premium and wouldn't be surprised if they graded a point or more higher.
They certainly look like nice Morgans... except for the fingerprint.... .... I would keep at least one in that holder, and certainly retain the card(s). Cheers, RickO
You don't see many commems in these holders - got this one from Boiler78.

The ones that I have seen for sale/auction can bring some pretty strong prices for "ordinary" coins...nice looking but common coins...which I guess you could say makes them "uncommon". I would still like to get my mits on one.

I quite love to see original Wayte Raymond toned coins... and even better yet, original WR pages with original coins. There're a few up on eBay right now, but none of which I can jump the gun on and buy. The people want $400-$500 for a page of one date of Franklins.. It's a bit ridiculous, also considering they have garbage photos 9 times out of 10.

Here's a little different one: Front and back

Is that Davids fingerprint on the 1879-S?
Good eyes! I wondered the same thing although I didn't think anyone would pick that up with my weak picture skills.
Looks like the type of holders I ve seen Canadian coins in from ICCS. Guess they are pretty safe and stable.

Only as good as 30 yrs in a PVC/plastic holder can give you. It's still a raw coin whose value is 95% based on its own merits.
This is why my initial thought is that a PCGS MS65DMPL would be worth more than a David Hall 65 that someone might call a 64.
To David's credit, these were placed into another holder before being put into the pvc flip.
I am pretty sure the ones I have seen also have the coin itself in a cointains, protecting from PVC

I would own the DMPL one.

That yellow/beige one looks like a "1st gen".
I did a search on Ebay and found this one for sale.
It's not my coin and I'm not sure if this is a fair price.
