What is the best source of modern registry quality coins (MS67+)? Rolls form the bank? Rolls form the mint? Bags from the mint? Mint sets?
Outside of buying these coins pregraded, where have you had the best luck?

Mint sets
Modern mint sets would be my opinion.... certainly some will emerge from other sources, but the mint sets would be the best opportunity and yield the best results. Cheers, RickO
BU rolls present two hurdles to finding Gem quality. For many coins, especially clads, BU rolls can be almost impossible to find. Then if you do find the rolls almost every single clean coin you'll see will be poorly struck from misaligned and tired dies.
It can be hard to find clean coins in mint sets but when you do they'll be well struck from new dies.
Yes.
There is a correlation between mint set and roll quality in most instances. Some mint set coins get beaten up pretty badly and some roll coins aren't as tough with full strikes. It really depends on what you're looking for and the importance one places on new dies and full strikes. If you want Gem Ikes you are best to look in rolls. If you want top notch 70's era quarters there are no other choices than mint sets. There are many coins that don't even exist in mint sets or that only come in mint sets.
Roll coins can be very beautiful though I rarely seem to be able to find them on my own. Many people have good luck finding them.
Sound advice and I agree.
Thanks for the advice everyone.
I'm currently focusing on ATB quarters. Once I complete these, I'll gradually move on to the earlier stuff.
That reminds me... I should go through my stacks of mint and proof sets and see if there is anything special hiding within..... They have been stored away for a long time... stopped buying them about eight years ago...
Cheers, RickO
I've found that rolls tend to be the best place for ATB quarters. The coins in the mint sets are sometimes slightly better, however it's much more costly and time consuming to go through mint sets then it is to go through rolls.
Buy them graded. You will save yourself mountains of time and frustration.
I agree 100%
