Thanks Fred Weinberg!

From NCI today....
In November 2016 the Numismatic Crime Information Center sent out an email crime alert regarding the theft of a group of rare error coins in the California area. Due to the wide-spread email alert and the assistance of Fred Weinberg and dealers who wish to remain anonymous, the coins have been recovered and returned to the rightful owner.

PCGS should hire the "Professor" and place him on the board! Maybe, as the error coin executive?

--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I got the email too. Can you share what were the successful actions that resulted in the coins' return?

All I can say at this time is that a good
friend and customer of mine had some
very rare error coins stolen from him at
the ANA in Anaheim last year.
With Doug Davis' help, and his network of
emails, etc., apparently the person who took
the coins found out about Doug Davis'
email notice, contacted another person, told
that person he'd return the error coins,
thru that person. That occurred, and the
collector now has all of his coins.
Don't thank me - thank Doug Davis of the
Numismatic Crime Information Center.
Outstanding!

w-o-w-!

Always good news to hear/read about the recovery of stolen items, especially since it happens so rarely these days.

That is awesome news.
As an error coin dealer/ collector, I have always thought it would be really hard for a thief to get rid of a set of high end error coins. Most have detailed photos. There is a small circle of dealers most of whom know of each other.
Excellent news!!

Glad to hear of the recovery!!!
Thanks to Doug Davis, who is coordinating many of these investigations successfully.
This is great news!
Great job!
In many cases of theft I see zero progress in terms of return of the stolen items, I know of many cases $50-$100K plus. If it were I, would have a fire in the belly private eye with a proven track record. Pick up the phone and call around to all the pawn shops and coin shops within reasonable distance with online reports of the stolen items with pictures. Get in the face of those doing cash transactions. Money doesn't grow on trees, do not give up. One reason this one was nailed was due to the impossibility of fencing them for significant money, too specialized and esoteric teamed with dedicated professionals staying on the job week after week.
Great news... very happy to hear that the coins were recovered.... Would prefer that the culprit was also apprehended, but this will suffice. Cheers, RickO
Well done all!! A strong community at work and looking out for one another!!
