Really weak strike. Maybe some rub on eagle's neck. 58.
I should have mentioned that the slab is scuffed up quite badly in some places - I tried using some car wax to buff the marks out but that didn't seem to help too much. I'll have to refer back to the post @BryceM made regarding slab restoration.
The mark on the neck, and the wings of the eagle are both on the slab, not the coin.
I will say 64, the strike is below average.
Most 1944-s walkers for the most part are weakly struck
I see no problem with 64
Centers are weak and I'll go 66.

yes siree .. 40's S 's have weak strikes.....a 66 .. own a PCGS one like that
The heavy chatter/scuffs on the reverse will hold her back I think. Also, known for weak strikes, this one is really weak in the arm-hand-upper thigh and eagle breast area. Finally, the whack/crack to the sun. Grading on these is all about the focus areas and the ones I mentioned are too busy and weak for a higher grade. 63 for me.
You guys guessing 66, time for a nap!
I'd have to see it in hand to tell if it's MS. It is very weak up the centers, even for a 1942-S. Fields are relatively smooth, though, so I'll say 63 with a shot at 64.

Looks 64+ish to me. Mark on sun. Soft strike common yes, but doesn't help. Luster is ok.
But I find walkers strangely hard to grade.
64 strike and 65 surfaces.
I'll go with 64 overall.
Strike is mushy and weak, even for a 42 s. Fields look good except Obv between R&T. Hits on sun, liberty's leg, gonna go 63.

Thanks for the guesses so far, I will update the thread with the PCGS grade later today.

Hard to tell luster from the picture.
Average strike, scrape on the sun, I'll say 64
I'll go with 64 also.

Luster looks great in that video. Love the OGH, too!
That's one that I'd leave alone and enjoy!

Luster looks lovely. How bad is that gash on the reverse?
AU58 I was way off looks so soft.
Hoard the keys.
This is what CAC is for. Leave it in the OGH and send for the gold bean.
bob:)
Very nice coin for a MS63
Old grading standards!
I think I am going to reshoot the pictures and try to capture the luster a little better. The mark on the reverse isn't as bad as it looks in the video, it's just the way the light is catching the scratch and surrounding chatter.
I'll include this one in a CAC sub and see what happens - A gold would be great! >

Yeah, I like the OGH so have no plans of cracking this out!
I agree with the 63.... though, lately, would not be surprised at a 64..... Cheers, RickO
You got a solid 63. Well done!

64 - strike + scrape on the sun
On the bourse floor you could look at a lot of 42-S in 63 and see that the majority are not as well struck as yours.
Seems 41+42-S are notorious for poor strikes (41-S can be extremely weak) but yet you can find 43-S with thumbs fairly easily.
Not an expert on walkers but now that the subject has been brought up I'm going to check Heritage's archives for fully struck 41,42-S
