I have been to the Newman Money Museum in St. Louis a few times.

The first time I was there was to research the Newman-Col. Green Early Silver Dollar Collection 1794 to 1803. If I recall correctly this was in 2007, a day before the Early American Coppers (EAC) Convention took place in St. Louis. EAC had a tour to the Newman museum that was well attended. I think the attendance was so large that we had to go on buses in two or three different groups, one after the other (?)!

The second visit to the museum was with Numismatist Rory Rea. Rory wanted to photograph the Newman-Col. Green early quarters 1796 to 1838 for his research prior to the Rea-Peterson-Karoleff-Kovachs book Early Quarter Dollars of the United States Mint 1796 -1838 being published. Rory and I spent three days and two nights in St. Louis for this project. Some of these photos are Plate Coins in this Early Quarter book. All of the Quarter Dollar photos were included in the special deluxe leather-bound edition of the book.

Rory also photographed all of the Newman-Col. Green early dollars 1794-1803 on this visit. Also photographed at this time were a Continental Dollar and an 1836 Gobrecht Dollar, along with a few other coins.

The early Dollars and Quarters were all taken out of Wayte Raymond holders to photograph ("raw"). We were likely the first to see these coins in over 50 years. Needless to say this was an enjoyable three days.

In addition to seeing the great museum we got to spend time browsing through Eric Newman's wonderful library. I don't think the library is open to the general public, but I'm not 100% sure on this.

For fun, here are photos of the obverse and reverse of Eric Newman's 1836 Proof Gobrecht Dollar, a Gem. This photo was taken for me by Rory Rea. I'm not 100% sure, but this stunning Gobrecht Dollar may still be part of the Newman Museum collection (not having been sold as part of the series of Heritage Auctions sales of the Eric Newman Collection.
