2016 Nickel marking

Hi, I am writing this post for my father in law who is a long time coin collector, but not very internet savvy.

A few weeks ago he received one of these nickels as change at the store after they had opened a new role, so when he saw this as he left he went back and bought the rest of the role.

There are two or three things he said he saw that were odd and was wondering how rare mistakes like this are in modern nickels.

The main thing is the giant gash-like marking in two nickels from that role. I've done a little searching around and didn't know if that is an example of "strike through".

The other thing he noticed is that when the two coins with the marking are turned over, the alignment of the other side is not at the same rotation as a coin that didn't have the marking.

I have included pictures of the two nickels with markings along with a normal 2016 nickel in the middle for comparison. In the picture with the rotated nickels I rotated them all along the vertical axis.

Thanks,
-Ben

Any chance you can post the pics in your posting? Would like to see, but am reluctant to click links.... and more so when poster has only 1 post. Otherwise, will have to leave it to others who are more comfortable with it...

I clicked, and it appears you have two
    Rotated Reverse Nickels; your photos
are not close enough for me to determine
if the other two pieces are Struck Thru
errors, or some type of machine damage.

A closer, larger, clearer photo set would be
    helpful.

From what I can tell those "gash-like" markings look to be planchet flaws and not post mint damage.

you need better non-direct lighting and they need to be closer pictures.

there are honest people here that will look at them if you want to mail them to them.
