What have I got on this 1918S Mercury Dime.

Look above the last T in Trust. Sure looks like a S to me. If so how did it get there? Picture is large so you can click on it and get a bigger view.
Thanks.

Looks like it may be an artifact from a die clash. There is also some up by the T of Liberty.
Collector, occasional seller
clash and pretty cool.
The upper artifact looks as if it is from a die clash...the lower appears more like a random die/planchet chip... Cheers, RickO
I'm with Ricko.
That is one of those that make you go hmmm.... One is tempted to just say it is a die chip, but a die chip that has the small curves shaped as an 'S' would not be typical. And about the size of a mintmark. I don't think it came from a die clash.
I noticed in the area at top of neck, directly below jaw, almost looks like faint traces of 'S' shape there also in your photo. But perhaps just the way the lighting hit the coin. Does look like the coin die had some work done to it, quite a bit of die abrasions from grinding, etc. Probably what the rougher area under the jaw is from.
I will reserve my opinion in lieu of the big dogs.
Probably random die damage. I don't think it is an "S".
