Hello... Hello again!

dsessomdsessom Posts: 2,435 ✭✭✭✭✭

After an approximately 5 year hiatus, I have finally gotten to a place in life where I can get back into my favorite and most expensive hobby! Numismatics is great fun, and also can be a pretty good investment. I've lost thousands on stocks, so relative to that, numismatics is a far better investment! LOL
A few of you hopefully remember me, but I see lots of new names here, so hopefully I can make a few new fiends as well! The coin collecting crowd is definitely a fantastic group of folks, and making friends in the hobby is cherished bonus.

I just wanted to re-introduce myself, before I started posting again. It's certainly great to be back!

Best regards,

Dwayne Sessom

I have always been more of a type coin kind of guy, my favorite series being Shield and Liberty nickels. I also have a soft spot for early copper. I haven't yet decided on what I will work on first, but I definitely want to find a few nice Saints because I was never in a position to touch them before, but they are now within my financial ability. I got divorced about 5 1/2 years ago, and it took a while to recover from that. I am doing well now, and have a girlfriend that encourages, and is even very interested in numismatics. Woohoo!

Howdy! Glad you've returned. While you've mentioned some potential targets, has your perspective changed about the hobby and your collection (beyond financial resources) since being away? Just curious! :)

Well, you're not alone in getting back into the hobby. Been 4 years for me. Just started again in Nov. Forum format is different and getting a bunch of "badges" in one day confusing,ie: 6,7 8 9 year ones :) . Sadly, some members no longer with us. One of the first things I did was buying a "nice" Saint off a member on the BST board. IMO this is still the best forum in the hobby.

I have come to appreciate foreign coinage a bit more, as well as American Colonial. I had always concentrated on US coinage and currency before. I believe that my love for coins stems from my interest in history in general. While I was away from coin collecting, I was collecting firearms (some modern but mostly older cap and ball), and I will still collect those as well, I'm sure.

Yes, I noticed all the differences too. The badges were certainly a surprise! Haha! Yes, time tends to rob us of family and friends, sadly. I lost several close friends over the past few years, and have been active on Findagrave.com in documenting their final resting places and preserving their memory.
This is NO DOUBT the best forum in the hobby! I am constantly overwhelmed by the helpfulness of the members here, and value the tight knit community. I have had very few bad experiences dealing with folks here. That is a rarity with any online forum!

Thanks! Well, that's good news on the buying end anyway. I did manage to keep a few coins from my old collection, but sold off a bunch of them.
