Locally-sourced coins

I shop for coins almost exclusively online and at the one show (Long Beach) I can attend. But it seems like a lot of collectors and dealers source their material from old brick and mortar shops. How much comes from where?

I could make a birth year registry set out of pocket change.

The online sellers have to get their material from somewhere.
Who knows what percentage could be attributed to any one source or sources.

There is no way to realistically determine the answer to your question. An extensive poll would give an indication, however, numismatics is a much broader hobby than even this forum. Cheers, RickO

One function of the local B & M is to buy from Joe Public. The two local shops around here get swept clean once or twice a year by the "big boys". They have to buy cheap enough to wholesale when time comes...

    Are they organic?

When I go to my favorite B&M I always ask to see the special 2X2 red storage box kept in the back. That's where the good stuff is.
