Jefferson Nickel Variety of the Week: 1938 FS-106 (DDO-008)

Let's pick back up with one of the new Cherry Picker Varieties. This one comes with a little back story related to the earlier Cherry Picker Variety, 1938 FS-1105 (QDO, DDO-005). PCGS was attributing the DDO-008 as the QDO, DDO-005 due to the similar characteristics in the doubling of LIBERTY (shown below) and TRUST. There was an attempt to educate our fabulous host on the differences and especially the doubling of the profile. As you might have concluded, my attempt obviously ended without success. Somehow, somewhere through some divine intervention, Cherry Pickers acknowledged this variety and made things right. There were a couple of the Registry Set folks that had the DDO-008 in their sets and have subsequently had the attribution corrected. All the Third Party Grading Companies should make sure they read the book before attributing coins! It would save me a whole bunch of time, but hey, what else would bring me more enjoyment than educating and complaining at the same time!

Happy Hunting and Happy Holidays

Another neat variety Mike, Keep on keeping on. I sure wish the CPG people would start on the new Dime varieties.

That's a decent d die. I've cherried several and I think the doubled profile is by far the best feature of this variety.

Aren't we fortunate that we have so many things to occupy our winter days?
When I hear people say that they are bored, I just shake my head.
"Please," I would like to tell them, "lend me some of your time."
I have so many things I like to do that boredom is not an issue.

@mannie gray...I totally agree....I have been retired for 8 years (except when they pull me out to fix a company)....and never yet have I had a boring day... so many fun things to do, I often wonder how I had the time to work. :D Cheers, RickO
