No, that is not correct. The max seller's premium is 10% but ranges from -10% to +10% depending on the consignment.

Sorry , but I mis-interprated the post made above

**Do not know. Heritage crapped in their bread basket when they raised the bp to 20%. I see far less of the quality coins I collect in their auctions and taking 20% from the seller **

I am gullible and naive : but don't the above say they take 20% from the seller ??

What he was trying to say is that because Heritage charges the BUYER 20%, the buyer offers 20% less than they would otherwise pay and the seller ends up with 20% less, even if they have 0% seller's premium which many sellers do. So he was talking about the same single 20% fee as applied to the buyer and then impacting the seller.

In other words, it's a $100 retail item. The buyer bids $83.33 so they only pay $100 total. The seller only gets $83.33.

How dumb can buyers be? ALL dealers love nothing more to have coins on their web sites passed up only to watch someone they know pay more in auction. It happens every sale some where.

Its not dumb, just instant gratification. Little do the buyers know, most of the time the under bidders have moved on. The down side is far more at auction then if they bought from a good dealer.

And sellers, show me a seller who does not believe their coin will not be involved in a never ending shoot out.

None if it is dumb, it is just auction fever!

A reading of Aldous Huxley's Ape and Essence will further explicate the broad range of faces human depravity presents in its primal forms, but auction fever can be grand opera (and great blood sport) even as seen from the cheap seats. o:)

Hmmmmm. Soap opera and faux violence. Actually, same as it ever was :#

@ImNotThatInnocent-SoDontYouBeNaive has successfully monetized this insight and has an excellent operation which attracts far too many people with good funds to dispute her observations. :D

Disgusting tactics above. And one of the many reasons I've stayed away from the "big time" coin market since 2009. And don't forget to .........."have fun with your coins." Where can I look up the definition for "numismatic punter?" First time I've run across it.

If you relate it to the UK slang ( I spend a lot of time there) --- I interpreted to mean either the uninitiated guessing at the results and bidding or the regular bloke.

Would the term "wanker" be applicable in this instance or is he just pulling our legs?
Does this loosely translate (through situational resonance) into pendejo?

Not only doesn't the auction house get 20% from the buyer (it's almost always 0%)......but they typically don't even get more than 10-15% from sellers of 4 figure coins. I would estimate that a typical $20K-$50K consignment nets 86-92% to the seller....or at least it should. Smaller consignments may indeed only net out at 75-85%....or snare an occasional large estate that doesn't know how buyer's fees really work. Buyer and seller's fee are just something to factor out and/or negotiate.

Now THAT was funny. And mercifully concise.

Unfortunate turn of events at several levels... Being naive and gullible is no excuse for providing commentary about what sounds criminal in connection with auction commissions. Do your homework first to avoid writing statements that have no factual basis. If someone expects an apology, seems that hell has a chance of freezing over before that happens.

As for the commentary directed at the Colonel, we should be far more comfortable with the Colonel just being the Colonel than certain others being something they never should have been in the first place.
