Classic Silver Commemorative Coins Forum

I am interested in having on-going discussions on Classic Commemoratives and sharing collective knowledge. Just started my PCGS Set Registry and find it very enjoyable and interesting. However, I do find the marketplace full of landmines for commemorative buyers out there. Knowledge is key. Since this is my speciality, my book library is becoming larger by the day. Not sure how this goes, but if we can get a forum category, I am willing to help in any way necessary. J.Perot

Honestly I don't think there is a wide group of Classic Commem collectors out there to warrant an individual forum. I think it would be a sleepy place! Still, IMO Classic Commem's are a very interesting segment of US coinage and I enjoy collecting them. Post about Classic Commem's are always welcome on the US Coin board and there are some folks who have absolutely wonderful collections of them that post here.

Oh and 'Welcome' to the boards with your first post!

I've been around these parts for the better part of two decades and would suggest that if you can get a forum dedicated to classic commemorative silver coins that you will soon find it populated by tumbleweeds.

My advice would be to simply start the threads you want to start on this forum and participate in here to the level that you find enjoyable. By the way, welcome.

Welcome aboard jperot ....Classic commemoratives are a nice area of numismatics.. however, I agree with others, they would not warrant a separate forum. They certainly are shown and discussed here on a regular basis and most are interested in the commentary and pictures. Cheers, RickO

Welcome jperot! I'm going to have to agree with the others. Usually several posts a week here on the US Coin Forum about Classic Commemoratives. Use this venue to ask questions, post pictures of newps, share new found information with us.

Just start your own thread here. Who knows it could become a legacy thread like the Barber or seated threads

I don't think it is a matter of landmines as much as a slow sinking ship.

  • Thank you all very much for your valuable insight. I look forward to reading your posts.
    Merry Christmas!

I agree, just start a thread here. Or may become a legacy thread as Mark has noted.
btw When I got back into coinage back in the mid 1990's , Classic Commemoratives were front page on the Coin world price guides. Boy times have changed. I might even try to fill in a few rarer pieces at these prices. Super low mintages and many interesting one time designs. What's not to like?

There are a lot of collectors who appreciate these coins, and a smaller group of us who specialize in them and have a lot of first-hand history to share with you going back to the 1950s.

In some cases, you will get a more frank discussion if you PM us; we are all happy to share our knowledge and opinions.
