I have been trying to discern if there is a real difference in how the top two grading services draw the line on AU55 and AU58 Morgans. This makes a big difference in much better dates with Greysheet now pricing AU58 coins. The 1879-cc for starters, the AU58 grade gives you a big win vs. getting the AU55 grade. A quick example, I was thinking of cracking out for an upgrade either at PCGS again or NGC more likely. Thoughts? http://i.imgur.com/ieERkvA.jpg http://i.imgur.com/3QmNgY7.jpg Scanner images, coin is semi-pl like a lot of 84-s coins. And NGC seems more likely to PL these: https://coins.ha.com/c/search-results.zx?N=51+790+231&Nty=1&Ntt=1884-s+$1+prooflike&Ntk=SI_Titles-Desc&ic4=ArchiveTab-071515

I have found no difference between the two but PCGS as a rule will not give a PL or DMPL to a circulated coin.
Nice coin.... I would leave it, but then, I do not sell coins... so, the price bump is likely worth a try... Cheers, RickO
I dipped my AU55 coin in acetone, it had some type of film that came off and will update when it gets regraded.
I can imagine the 84-S is worth trying.

Here is a PCGS AU58 that sold for over $6K: https://coins.ha.com/itm/morgan-dollars/silver-and-related-dollars/1884-s-1-au58-pcgs/a/1227-3854.s?ic4=ListView-ShortDescription-071515
So bidders don't have to be told a coin is totally PL in that type of slab to make strong bids.
