please PM your experience, I know he is top notch and great inventory. but never bought anything from him, its a low value item compared to rest of inventory, but a big ticket for me.

Don't all dealers permit that? Just read the contract, one dealer's contract I had on a high value coin indicated I would forfeit all down payments if I did not pay in full in a few months.

I wonder how often deals like this end up causing problems due to fanatical collectors overspending and then realizing they can't make the payments required in the agreed upon time. When I was selling off my large cent collection back around 2004 I received an unusually high winning bid on one of the coins. It was apparently a condition census piece for a Sheldon number. I agreed to let the winning bidder (it was an eBay auction) pay over time. It was the first, and last, time I allowed that. It took what seemed forever to complete the transaction as the buyer couldn't pay per the agreed upon terms. He did eventually pay in full but the problems weren't worth the trouble.

    All glory is fleeting.

I have a couple times on 5 figure coins. No problems. Terms are case by case basis. I always get inpatient and pay it off early into the agreement.

what i usually do, is mail all the payments at one time. with post-dated checks. this has worked on numerous occasions.

Post-dated checks are not "legal". If something happens to you and you want the check to still be valid, this won't work as the checks can't be cashed. Most dealers I know will accept future checks for payments, but they have to be dated the day you write them and they will put a sticker on them to deposit on the agreed-upon date.

Don't most coin dealer layaway plans typically work that you don't receive the coin until you have finished the payments??

Post dated checks: my bank doesn't look at the date...if you send me five post dated checks I can cash them all at once the day I receive them...

I have done business with Doug for almost 20 years. He is great to work with and has always done a fair deal. His coins are top notch. One of my favorite coins I got from Doug.
