Saw a gold quarter at the bank last week

Not one of the newly released SLQs in gold, but a Washington quarter coated golden.
The type that was likely part of a TV coin show package at a huge markup.
When I was getting the box of half dollars, and the teller was also giving me some change with a check I cashed. She pulled back a quarter and said "Oops, I can't let that one go, I'm keeping it". Then she showed it to me and asked about it.
I told her what it was.
She asked the value.
I gave her the honest opinion of the value.
At face value, for her and the neatness factor, it was cool to her.
I felt sad for whoever originally WAY overpaid for it and then the loss they had on it as it was obviously worth only face value and that's where it presently sits.
She only had the one, so the others have been spread to the winds for awhile now.
Just interesting to see one of these "in commerce".
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

It's pretty sad to see these things come through the local coin shops. The solid wood, velvet lined, brass hinged case, with multiple drawers, each with row after row squares, with each square holding a colorized state quarter or presidential dollar. Each coin carefully documented with invoices and an official certificate of authenticity, And each piece introductory-priced at just $19.95 with a limit of three pieces per household.
Because "collect what you like" loses its luster when it's people who can't afford their meds or their heating bill and they think they're putting something aside for a long, dark retirement.

I received one in change not long ago that was chrome plated.
Just shows that some tellers do watch the coins.... and pull them for themselves (or loved ones). Cheers, RickO
Sad but true. And the fancy velvet lined boxes are worth more than the contents:(
Thanks to Weiss I'm leaving work early to jump off a bridge.
Well my vault teller at the credit union was telling me about the customer that had six dateless SL quarters that the coin machine wouldn't take. She told the member they were worth the melt value of the silver and the customer was coin shop bound. Now of course I would have given the member the melt value - but I wasn't there when it happened.
WOW! Classic you suck! Should've taken it for the $0.25 in change - those things retail at around $19.95!!!!!
Cheers, RonO
And then there's the gold plated Buffalo that the mint ran out of blanks and you can have yours for only 995 with strict limits
