Who does PCGS call when a coin is really difficult to grade?
This looks like a job for ... SuperGrader!

The board of experts plastered on the home page, especially for authenticity. No John Fords in that group!
They don't call. The charges just post to my credit card statement and I scratch my head thinking "of course it's genuine "

Hmmmm.... actually, that question is interesting (the humor in the OP is great as well)... While it may not happen often, I believe they likely have a few 'experts' on speed dial.... Just makes sense... Cheers, RickO
The wife?
All the major authentication companies have contacts with specialists. These are available for consultation as necessary.
They called me once on what VAM a Morgan was; I guess I'm the dumbkopf, I thought that was what they were supposed to do. The all important proper filling out the submission forms which in the digital age I am not that good at.
"difficult to grade"? I have seen in the PCGS Grading video, that if two graders do not reach the same grade conclusion, then a 3rd grader (not an elementary school child) is brought into the equation. As far as variety attribution goes, then there is a list of "specialists" that can be called upon.

PCGS calls no one. Your coin gets sent back in a poly bag labeled "No Decision". No cost for return postage. Then you send it ATS, it gets graded and you sell it privately 2.5% less than PCGS FMV listed price. My experience.
They sometimes go with the "no opinion" opinion.
Instead of grading it - they just flip it.
This couple. They've been grading coins for ages and really know their stuff!
