An absolutely stunning 1831 LM-6/V1, with gorgeous toning. The die marriage may be only an R1, but the eye appeal is quite rare.
Wow that's very nice. Very pleasing to the eyes
HAPPY COLLECTING
I would own that one in my set!
Nice grade on that coin..... Cheers, RickO
That is a beauty.

Per inquiry: Guilford Coin owned that one.
Old thread, but that is one nice half dime! Id like to have one like that for my collection.
Absolutely gorgeous.

Being a half dime guy, and lusting after that particular coin, I was the source of the inquiry. @logger7 told me that Guilford had a big acquisition of bust material back about 8 years ago. So, just on the offchance that they were still pursuing bust coinage like that, I called them. I found out that they are not regularly getting that kind of material. They don't have a website, and they don't have a mailing list. So I guess that if they get anything, I'll see it on their eBay site along with the rest of us.
ah well, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I was looking closely at a few of my own capped bust half dimes and I realized I had an 1832 LM-3 that bears similarity (including the grade of MS63) to the 1831 in this post. Truth be told, I think the 1831 is the better coin - but I love 'em both.

That's a real looker! You probably know, but for others who may be interested, that's an LM-4.2, (the second remarriage of Obverse 2 and Reverse J). LM-4.2 is attributed by the die chip in the top of S2, the second S in STATES. It's rated as Rarity 2 currently.

I saw the group of coins that coin came with. If you search cert numbers near it you will find other beautiful coins. I own one coin from the accumulation.
If I remember the story from guilford correctly the coins were stored for years in some sort of wax like holders. They ranged from 1830s-1840s and were many of the top pop coins.
Guilford coin was a great shop years ago. Now not much there
