My grandfather was born on December 7,1891. After church ,on Sunday December 7,1941, many relatives gathered at his home to celebrate his 50th birthday. During the afternoon they received the news of Pearl Harbor. One of his nephews, who was already in service , left the party to report for duty. During the war, in addition to running his farm, my grandfather worked at the Vultee Aircraft Factory. Post a coin from 1891 or 1941.

Most of the PL 91's have that same kind of look.
David Bowers described this Philadelphia date as "often insipid and grainy, not at all attractive,"
Here is the same coin from an earlier auction. Depends a lot on lighting. In hand it actually looks pretty good.
A fine way to pay tribute to the history and memory.

The 1941 Walker, Merc and Jefferson are amazing.... Cheers, RickO
Yep. I'm was just wondering if a dip would help. Not from the better photos. But a 91 4 DMPL is yuge money.

My Uncle served in Pearl Harbor, as well. He passed in 2006 at the age of 84. I used to love listening to him tell the story of that fateful day. He was so smart and knew about so many different subjects.....always willing to listen, advise and help. I miss him.

10 years ago this might have ended up in DMPL holder, but with the standards today it probably wouldn't.
I probably will try reconsideration to see if I can get a + grade, which would make it the top pop in PL for PCGS.
