Quality of Gold WLH

I got my Walking Liberty Half today and was disappointed by the quality of the obverse. The obverse has brown spots scattered throughout but most noticeable in the right field and between the rays, in the elbow and on the neck. My dime and quarter were perfect. I haven't bought much gold from the mint, but is this an acceptable product? Would you return it and would they accept as a return. What should I do?

Looks like someone sneezed while it was raw. Send it back. Mine does not look like that.
If you're not happy, send it back.
Return it, I wouldn't settle for it.
I'd return it.

Sending mine back too. It's not like yours, however it has a big smudge and a spot on the obverse.
If the return policy is not regularly abused by the purchaser, then they have an open door return policy
You can also request a reimbursement for the return shipping. save your receipt.

Yes return it and explain why on the form.
Hopefully you'll get a better one
Does the Mint limit the # of returns for defective items per buyers purchase of the same product? In other words how many times can you return a defective WLH?
When I returned my SLQ, they automatically sent a UPS return label to me. I had my replacement SLQ faster than I thought. (About a week, maybe a bit more.)
To the OP, make sure you fill out the return form via the button on your order page...
Looks like a problem coin, don't make it your problem.
Thanks everyone , I got on the mints chat line and they walked me through the return process and sent me a prepaid shipping label via email which I have printed and have the package waiting for UPS to open tomorrow.
Make sure their label includes proof of delivery, if not add it on at the post office.

I agree that it's not acceptable quality for a coin that is being sold at a high premium by the Mint.
I knew it would happen.
The people in Indiana got tired of me returning spotted ATB P-pucks. I ordered 2 at a time and kept returning for a replacement. I think I hit 4 or 5 when they sent me a letter or email saying no more -- these are yours.
I have heard from a dealer that would buy quantity and return
A large portion of non-high grade. They eventually cut him off too.
Once, for this well known spotting issue, is in line with reasonability.
I received a spotted ASE once, in the early nineties...not milk spots.....and I returned it...very fast replacement. That was the only 'defective' I have ever received from the mint. Cheers, RickO
In 1984 when the mint produced the $10 gold Olympic commemorative coin which was the first U S made gold coin since 1933 I was quite excited. The coin I got had a mark that was visible with the naked eye which was quite disappointing. I returned it for a replacement and the next coin I got was worse with a heavy scrape in the obverse proof field. I concluded that any damaged coins that were being returned are just put back in inventory. I'm not convinced that the mint isn't still doing the same thing today.

The quality control is unacceptable, past and present. Even with all the complaints nothing has been remedied. Was the quality as poor when they had a mint director? Such as the last one, Edmund Moy?
If you are not happy with the coin right now, in the first moments you own the coin, then you will never be happy with it. Return it for another. Could also return for a refund and try to buy one from a dealer who will pre-screen for a "perfect" piece... sometimes that service is worth the few extra bucks.
Good luck.

Definitely return it. Call first and explain. They will cover return shippping for a coin with such problems.
Just received my return back today. 15 day turn around time. Much nicer coin. Does have some minor finning on the obverse but otherwise a beautiful coin.
