Jefferson Nickel Variety of the Week - 1945-D/D DDO-006 (FS-101)
Jefferson Nickel Variety of the Week - 1945-D/D DDO-006 (FS-101)
Crew, I have posted on this variety in the past. Now that this variety has had a year of searching, I wanted to update on a couple of observations and get your feedback.
I have been hunting this DDR for a number of years after I learned the Obverse die was paired with 2 Reverse dies that happen to be different RPMs, RPM-005 and RPM-020. I think this is pretty cool that we have confirmed die pairings for a Jefferson Nickel. I also have a 1945-D/D RPM-005 with the normal Obverse. Hey, back to the purpose of the post! I would have thought the Pops would be a little higher, as I have found several, I assumed others would have done the same. The current PCS Pops stand at 2 non-FS and 13 FS. The FS coins are all pretty high grade and a couple of mine posses 6 hammered steps. Now to my points and your feedback:
Does your 1945-D/D FS-101 have the Reverse RPM-005 or RPM-020?
I have seen several of the graded coins and even have a few lesser grade raw coins and only 1 is the RPM-005. Should we conclude the RPM-005 variety would command a higher premium over the RPM-020?
RPM-020....................................................................................RPM-005

Hi BD, the 1945-D FS-101 I got from you graded MS-64FS at PCGS.
It has the RPM-005, plus a thin die crack from the rim at 12 o'clock, thru the left serif of U,
thru the upright of the D mintmark, then to the top of the dome, just a little left of the center.
Great coin, and thanks for posting this variety!

Another neat variety Big Dowg! Keep'em coming!
Very nice.... I have not searched for these, and would have to rely on inputs from the experts if I find something...That being said, I will give my nickel stash a workout one of these snowy winter days. Cheers, RickO
I always look forward to your threads on these nickel varieties . Thanks for sharing. You da man.
Rich,
I'm glad you got a nice result with that 1945-D/D DDO! I forgot you snagged an RPM-005 from me! You may have the only PCGS attributed 1945-D/D FS-101 RPM-005? My unattributed MS66FS RPM-005 is in my "All Variety" FS 1938-1964 Set, as I want to fill the 1945-D spot with a nice variety and showcase both DDO-006 coins side-by-side.
Catch you soon
nice coin.
Mike, you can get that puppy attributed and put it in both sets!
Jon, if I have it attributed I will not be able to place it in the 1945-D regular slot for the All Variety Set.
Sure it will. I have had it happen to me when I didn't want it....using the "put in all slots" checked.
