Walker Gold Sellout!!

Its awful quiet on this new offering tomorrow at noon. This is a highly collectible series and having a gold version for the first time in American history is astonishing. I can see the excitement frothing over- everyone must be to anxious to talk about it though. I'm guessing first day sellout!!!!!!

Possible sellout may be a more appropriate title.

The mint's lifting of the household limit so early with the quarters (early enough to still qualify for "First Strike", IIRC) is going to kill the first day sales of these. Volume dealers who need to sell slabbed material on the secondary market aren't going to be as generous with their pre-sale offers, if they make them at all. No way they sell out on the first day, IMHO.

some coin co. on the television was selling them for $1,599.95 for a ms 70, i just smiled and changed the station.

Being a smaller size kind of put a damper on it for me.....Cheers, RickO

865 on the Walker as others have said.......... 460 now on the SLQ

  • KudbegudKudbegud Posts: 4,735 ✭✭✭✭✭

At $865 the possibility of a first day sell out seems optimistic. Still lots of quarters available. I foresee the Halves doing better but lingering for a while before a sell out.

I got the quarter FOR the pom poms.

The Walker doesn't do a thing for me. Not even the real ones.

There are less offers to buy for these than the other. They MIGHT eventually sell out, but I don't see a first day sell out. And even if they do, I don't see them going up on the secondary market.

I just looked it up on the mint website. That is a beautiful gold coin in my opinion.

Guys - you are underestimating the sheer appeal of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar - such a beautiful coin, highly collectible and always discussed. Imagine how few pieces there are out there in this offering! How can any price be too high?! And only 3 per household?! I wonder how many people took the day off just for the opportunity to be a part of history in the making!!!!

This will be a big fat meh offering. Are you a betting man?

I get your view on it but it is narrow sighted as there are many other factors at play here.

    The more you VAM..

@ $865 per 1/2 troy oz coin, times 70,000 limit = the cows are home, in the barn before this one sells out, next year

    Gold spot currently @ $1225 / oz, $865 x 2 = $1730 / oz for TWO gold WLH. That's $250 premium per 1/2 oz, and a 70,000 strike coin. No-no.

In 1964, the 10 coin mint set contained $1.82 in face value and was priced at $2.40. In addition, the set contained (.0723+.1808+.3617)X2 = 1.2296 troy ounces of silver if I did my math correctly.

Now, the mint set contains 26 coins with $11.82 in face value and is priced at $26.95 and you get no silver.

The premium they are charging for everything has gotten outrageous. I actually stopped buying mint and proof sets because of this and other reasons. If they actually were reasonably priced, I would still be buying them. I feel the same way about the special coins and sets they are offering today. It just kills me to pay a $250 premium for this coin so I will probably pass.

I'm going to buy one to complete the set. I don't see it as being an investment but that's not really necessary when you're a coin collector.

Limited after market for these for all the reasons given above. I'll buy as many as I can at issue price, but I will not be making premium payments for these. They'll be available in qty within 2 weeks. My projection for tomorrows sales....maybe 25000-30000 coins. End of the week 35000. True demand will be around 40-45000 coins. The quarters are selling so-so. There are many thousands of coins tied up in dealer inventories. Those dealers are not going to get aggressive on this coin, thus the reduction in demand.

VaultWholesale sent me an email saying if you buy the HH limit of 3 they will give you a $100 credit if you sell the coins to them.

They use to offer a decent premium, but now they say:

_We usually partner on these types of promotions with industry giants who send them in for grading, hoping to cash in on the SP70 market. The last couple of coins tanked, to be candid, so the grading market is very soft right now.

Still, we are cautiously optimistic that we'll have wholesale buyers calling us tomorrow, so here's what we propose:

    • Buy your household limit of three (3) coins, then CONTACT US IMMEDIATELY.
    • We expect that we will be able to offer you a $100 profit in credit towards your next purchase, (in addition to full reimbursement for your coins and shipping, of course).
    • If the market looks good, and folks are calling us for stacks and stacks of the coins, we might offer you a "straight cash", quick profit, option as well (as we've done in the past).

Not really. Judging by the first two it will be a pale imitation of the original. Looks better in the rendering than in hand.

Does that mean that they will cover your shipping costs to them also? You ship $2600 in material it is going to cost you about $50 for insured shipping. You make 2% on the deal, is it worth your time and efforts, I don't think so.

The answer on a sellout will come soon. Just remember this offering is probably the best coin the mint has offered this year. I'm personally excited!

Maybe overseas demand and there are quite a few modern ASE collectors who may want one. I think it could sell out in a day.

  • After talking to one of the big players, he expects a sell-out today... going off of their pre-sale numbers. Much better than anticipated.
We believe that all the big players are assuming they will get all they need, but that might not happen.
