Were Walkers like many other series of their time? Late '20s branch mint coins were victims of excessively worn dies. That '29-D looks pretty dandy to me.

I'm usually on the same page as Walkerfan, but the walker posted doesn't look AU58 to me either; too many abrasions, wear, and luster breaks. Solid 53/shot 55 though.
Everything else posted look like primo examples!
I purchased this 1906 O Barber Half in a PC 61 holder (no mans land). It looked like there was a little rub on the cheek to me so I cracked it and submitted it raw to our hosts; it came back in a PCGS 58 holder:

(Putin 1/17) Gone but not forgotten. IGWT, Speedy, Bear, BigE, HokieFore, John Burns, Russ, TahoeDale, Dahlonega, Astrorat, Stewart Blay, Oldhoopster, Broadstruck, Ricko, Big Moose.

That sooo wants to be MS but the upper right quadrant of the shield and the leaves behind the eye tell the tale
I disagree. It's probably mint state but with some luster grazes on the high points from coin to coin sliding. 100% full field luster with minimal grazes is not typical of AU coins. Fields on the is coin look MS63/64. The high points on the obverse are the fore lock and center of cheek. Those really don't look rubbed. I never look at the obv wreath leaf feathers as those are invariably scuffed from coin to coin scraping. The eagle's outer wing tips are the high points along with the eagle's center neck feathers and brow. There could be only some scuffing on the eagle's neck feathers, not wear.... hard to tell. I'm almost certain that right upper shield is not wear, but strike. Same comment for upper/inner wing feathers next to the shield. The eagle's inner right wing/right side of shield commonly show weak striking issues, especially on O mints. The one side is almost always the more weakly struck. It's not logical the right upper shield wears and the opposite side does not. Probably is mint state but there is a lot of scuffing and wipe lines cross the cheek/jaw. Half the time you send this in it would probably go MS61.

I have to respect PCGS' expertise, but to me that Walker is an XF.
ANA 50 year/Life Member (now "Emeritus")
PM me similar walkers 1916-1929 in xf for sale.
Yeah, that 29-D is a 58 all day,
Plenty of super sliders in this series. This was sold to another board member.
(the only signs of circulation were on the reverse but still quite faint)

Lance, you could switch all your 58 coins with your 61 coins and I don't think anyone could tell the difference!
Very nice!
I agree with you.

My avatar Tried twice for a plus and the only reason I think they won't is because They think it is MS!
