If they're from my change jar, I'd say 1978 due to the metal content.
If they're pop top MS grades, I'd say 1987
Both assuming were talking US Cents.
Hadn't thought about it, so I will say no clue at this time.

1987 pennies are worth 9 cents more than 1978 ones. Just under $20.
Lance.
1978 is worth $19.78 and 1987 are worth $19.87. so, i'll go with 1987.
Lance's answer notwithstanding, I imagine pop top 78s are higher condition rarities than 87s, so I'll say the 78s are worth more. Melt is also higher on them.

Neither date is very tough. The '78 was saved in rolls and the '87 appears Gem in mint sets quite often.
I'd guess the '87 is about $1.50 and the '78 is $1.00 per roll.
Both dates come really nice but the '78 is harder to find especially in highest grades.
As a rule always go with the zinc in BU because they are far scarcer in many cases. Even when zincs were saved in good numbers many dates have corroded away. Some of the zincs bring pretty good money in chBU even wholesale.
"worth" is a funny concept. my questions are always, "to whom, when, and where?"
They're worth the same to me: almost nothing in small quantities, and face minus 10% in large quantities, if delivered to my door.

I'm pretty sure Lance's answer is the one that the OP is looking for. I've heard variations of this before. The joke gets a much longer life in this board, though, when people cannot help but compare them as dates and in so many various ways!
I'm so literal minded and such a coin nerd that I just got it.............wow.....
the 1978 has more copper value, but they both are worth 1 cent for exchange. Now if you asked cost of production and / or life expectancy....
That's what my grandma would call a "Your Tricking Me Question."
At least I think it's one that's kinda funny
I have no idea..... but look forward to what will likely be a most enlightening answer .... Cheers, RickO

Most people miss this question. Some say gold and some say neither.
