Sometimes ya gotta say hmmmm....in this case over toned ASE's

So I am looking to reduce some items in my collection and one of them is a 2004 MS69 PCGS Collectors Club Edition ASE. I go out to eBay to see what they are selling for so I can figure what I am going to ask and see these 2 (actually one) gems. Now untoned versions of this item seem to be selling in the 28.00 - 30.00 range.

There is this one sold on 10/18 for 64.00:
ebay.com/itm/2004-American-Silver-Eagle-PCGS-MS69-PCGS-Collectors-Club-Edition-Toned-/162235889232?hash=item25c6033650%3Ag%3AGi8AAOSwmLlX~WG4&nma=true&si=j7MSgdiIhKpILq%252F59dEK7KhrrdU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

And then this one that sold on 11/06 for 111.00
ebay.com/itm/2004-PCGS-MS69-Gem-Colorful-Toned-PCGS-Collectors-Club-American-Silver-Eagle-/381831503395?hash=item58e6ee5e23%3Ag%3Ao-IAAOSwB09YFOc3&nma=true&si=j7MSgdiIhKpILq%252F59dEK7KhrrdU%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

But wait...they are the same coins! A couple of thoughts...1) for me the coin is just not attractive. 2) It has to be AT'ed as I have not seen any others like that and I am pretty sure it was not like that when slabbed by our hosts. So it must have been gassed in the slab. 3) Wow...$111.00 for that? I know it is worth what someone is willing to pay but prices like that just encourage others to AT coins and try and make a quick buck.

Anyway just a Friday post...have a great weekend!

Yes they were toned in the slab. Recent thread discussed the Doc. A pickup point for these (other than the uglyness) is that the hologram on the back is bubbled. Same company doing other denominations as well.

Uggles!.. Definatly AT and pcgs would have known that if it were submitted as such.

Really a sad note . I sure don't like this kinda stuff and I wish like hell it would stop .

The bitterness of "Poor Quality" is remembered long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I have toned SAEs (raw and in PCGS plastic).
I have seen better than what I have, and I think I have some nice ones. I sold some before for the $200+ range about 7 years ago.

The one you link to, I would agree, looks cooked to me....quite possibly done after being slabbed. To me, and to each their own, that one is barely worth melt. It's ugly.

So, why did it go for what it did? shilling. Not a real sale. Someone who doesn't know better. Could be any reason.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
