    Heck YES !!!!!!!!!

NOTHING like the history of aged coins used in commerce. The stories . . . opportunities . . . chances to open doors that will inspire. I do it every day in school . . . just not with any of my own kids. I may not get them to follow as collectors, but they are fascinated by where those metal discs might have been, what was happening at the time they were minted, and the world as it 'was'.

    Go for it !!!!!

Good for you (they are cheaper too

I started a 2nd dansco 7070 for that reason. So that the coins could be pulled out and looked over without any big waste.
My biggest thing for those coins is that the designs and legends still have enough meat to be viewable and discernible.

Cool. But I also suggest starting a pirate treasure chest filled with silver as a start. I don't have any kids but an 8yo brother. 2yrs ago I got him one with about $100 in silver in it as a start and grab him something at every show. The little booger has about a grand in silver already and he loves it. I always tell him to be good or I'll sell it on eBay and he gives me a look like "do it and die" lol

    The more you VAM..

    Great input thanks guys!

    Drunner, nicely put.

    Sky, thanks

Bochi, I agree, as long as the details are evident, that's the key.

CC, sounds like your bro is going to need a SDB soon.

I suggest NCLT at first for the little shaver.

"The Tooth Fairy" used to bring my daughter Peace dollars. This was when silver was "up to" about $8 per oz... ah the good ole days.. This, plus the birthday money she put into her own collection, and she had almost a complete set. Fast forward about 8 years... silver was up to $40 per oz and she decided she needed a laptop. I helped her with the sale and she still has a decent HP machine...

    Congratulations and Enjoy!

Congrats! My 4 y/o son just got his first peace dollar and he loves it.

He also lost his first tooth a couple months prior. I (the tooth fairy) gave him two Susan B's. Told him they were the coins of the tooth fairy. Figured the chances of him finding one in circulation would be pretty slim, so the story should hold up.

Hey, congratulations on fatherhood. Changes your whole life and outlook permanently, and are you ever in for it.

Great coins, I'm doing the same thing, so far all I can get out of my 8 and 10 year olds are "neat, dad!" before they return to Minecraft, but I'm holding out hope. A trip to the coin store to sell some junk silver for cash, then a trip to the Target toy aisle might help...

When my son was born, I knew it would be over all too fast (i.e.grow up and move out) so enjoy as much time as you can with your family!!

You guys do realize that, having met SS and seen his wife, his child is VERY lucky that SS has such a pretty wife.
He's a cute kid from the pics I have seen, and he owes it ALL to his mommy

Speaking as a father (and grandfather) who has a deep passion for coins, I think it would be great to expose your son to numismatics, but just don't push him (not that I think you would). My daughter used to accompany me to almost every coin show I did, and while I knew she wasn't into coins to the degree that I was, I thought she was still somewhat interested. Wishful thinking on my part.
She did really like meeting people, selling, wheeling and dealing, and was really a pretty darn good salesperson and had much more patience with tire kickers and storytellers and grouchy old men than I did.
. And, wow, could she put out a nice organized display case and set up and break down in no time while I was out "working" (shooting the bull). She kept me organized too.
But what we both really enjoyed was just the time we spent together, traveling, eating, talking, meeting eccentric and sometimes interesting people. She learned a lot about people and what makes them tick and how to get along with others, negotiate, etc., on the many Saturdays and Sundays we spent peddling coins.
Well, she's 27 now, and still doesn't care much about coins.
    And I'm OK with that.
But, my granddaughter....she's into Lincoln Cents. And, I admit, I do encourage her but I don't push her.
Yes, Mr, Slammer, you can always hope! But don't be disappointed when he may show little interest.
You can still have hope for the next generation of little Slammers. :)

Congrats buddy! Our legacy lives on though our children....that's what my granddad always thought...he is dead...so he's the only one out of the two of us that knows if he was correct or not ;)
