I'm posting this for a friend, it weighs properly at 5 grams.
It appears that a copper plating is peeling off, but I think it might be an error coin.
Thoughts?

There are so many things wrong with this thread I am just going to walk-away.
It's a Sintered Planchet/Mis-Annealed Planchet.
The planchet was over-heated in the annealing operation,
and some of the copper elements from prior batches then
adhere to the planchet -
Sometimes you get just a red 'tint' on the surfaces, and sometimes,
like on this nickel, a thin copper layer forms on the planchet.
This all occurs before the coin is struck.
Hope this helps a bit - I'm sure someone will post a much more
detailed explanation.
Thank you Fred!

Very cool I have one like it that I found in a bag and had it graded.
