I took this photograph at my place near San Francisco recently.
A pair of owls in a tree
Pine cones, too.
The bird looked familiar, somehow.
Panama-Pacific $50 1915 Octagonal
From Heritage Auctions via Wikipedia
To be technical, they are Great Horned Owls and pretty big birds.

Awesome!! Few years ago something flew out of the woods and hit my truck when I was driving home. Realized it was an owl when I got home and it was stuck in the grill. Unfortunately it didn't make it. I felt so bad.
Great picture... The Great Horned Owl is an impressive bird....I would see them occasionally while hunting...amazing to see them fly through a forest... so quiet....Cheers, RickO
I suspect the owl that posed for the Pan-Pac has retired by now.
