--- Arietta has been lights out the two games he's pitched, Cleveland hitters haven't figured him out.
--- I'll take heat for saying this, but I didn't think Tomlin pitched as bad as it looked. absent that fielding blunder he's out of the first at 1-0. everything after that would have been different.
--- each Team seems to have a guy who's a liability. for the Indians it's been Naquin and it really showed tonight. the game is just too big for him and I bet he won't start in Game 7. for the Cubs, it's Baez, although he has made every play in the field he is a "hole" in the batting order.

Heyward is at least as big of a "hole" in the batting order for the Cubs this series... but looking at the entire postseason, he's done very little other than pop the ball up. Baez has done much better than him at 17 for 63 during the postseason vs. Heyward's horrible 5 for 43. That said, the rest of the batting order is "en fuego" so hopefully that is enough to seal the deal.
The last time a team took 2 on the road to finish off a World Series comeback victory was the 1979 Pittsburgh Pirates. That was the same year I spent my summertime in Chicago and decided that I would become a Cubs fan for life. If they want to be the best, they need to beat the best. It couldn't possibly get any better than this for the last game of the season.

If I was a Cubs' fan, I would have been seething during that game last night. Not only did they jump on Cleveland early, but they did so in such a beautiful fashion that the thought of AC breathing the air in between those white lines should have never crossed Maddon's mind.
Easy win.
The closer rests his invaluable arm.
A better G6 script could not have been written for the Cubs.
Yet there the flamethrower was -- in a 5-run game, mind you -- extinguishing a portion of his arm that may very well be needed in the most important 9 innings the Chicago Cubs have played since any of us have been alive. And then to stupefy me even further, I looked up and he was toeing the rubber yet again the very next inning after they pumped the lead to 7. My phone went off shortly thereafter. Right on cue, a text from a buddy who eats, sleeps and breathes the Cubbies: "WTF IS GOING ON!"
Listen, I understand that 7 doesn't exist until 6 is nailed down. But for the love of God, your pen is filled with able-bodied pitchers not named Aroldis Chapman who can reach 27 outs before the Indians get to 7 (or 9) runs. I'm going to go out on a sturdy limb and say that's yet another salient reason why your squad was able to reach 103 this year.
Maybe it will amount to nothing tonight. For the sanctity of Game 7, I hope not. But if an Indian runs into one of his heaters at the most inopportune time due in major part to it cooling off a few mphs, the last person anyone on this planet will want to be is Joe Maddon. There will be some very serious 'splainin' to do.
Here's my take on Joe, and I'm almost certain that it's too obvious to overlook - last night WAS Game 7, and tonight is Game 7B. Bringing Chapman in gave him the strongest feeling of security he could achieve, aside from being reassured by Chapman himself that he can handle the usage. If Chapman enters the Game 7 fray tonight, it's with a 1-run or better lead in the bottom of the 9th, and maybe even sooner as we know. Johnny Wholestaff is on duty tonight. And one other thing - if the Indians are leaning heavily on their 3-headed monster to close out the game with a lead, Chapman wouldn't have a pivotal role other than to hold them close late. Maddon has essentially prepared himself for any potential scenario for the LAST game. He will continue to play the way he has all year. The same guy who flip-flops relief pitchers with outfielders, bats pitchers 8th, and currently has handed the emotional keys to the bandwagon to a guy who didn't play all year until last week, and now he's the 2nd guy in the order who gets hittable pitches for 3, 4, 5 & 6. Beware the Evil Genius (Francona), but remember who's Trying Not To Suck. ;-)
The Cubs have all their pitchers available ( save JA) tonight Including Lester and Lackey. They have no excuses.

I think both teams will surely be willing to throw whatever they need to tonight at each other to pull out a W. I hope it ends up belonging to the Cubs at the end of it all!
Interesting role reversal for Cleveland sports fans in 2016. In June the Cavs were down 3-1 in the NBA title series and came back to win the title by winning 3 straight games. Fast forward to the World Series and the Indians were up 3-1, 1 win from the title. Now the Cubs have won 2 in a row to tie the series and force a game 7. If the Indians lose game 7 then Cleveland sports fans in 2016 will have been on both sides of 3-1 deficits and both sides of roaring comebacks by the opposing team who wins 3 in a row.
Cleveland sports fans must be a little stressed right now.
The all-hands-on-deck scenario tends to scare me sh*tless, cuz those dudes can be such creatures of habit. How many times have we seen an SP tossed into a relief role or a closer asked to get 5 instead of 3, and once they hit the bump it's as if they woke up on the sidewalk in their birthday suit.

It was still silly and mistake to bring in Chapman when the game was NOT on the line.
Hope it doesn't bite the Cubs tonight.
How could you possibly know it was a mistake? The answer is you can't.
Wasn't there two man on in the seventh when he snuffed out the fire? What if they don't bring in Chapman and two more runners get on in two more runs are in? You're gonna have to bring in Chapman anyways. I would have brought him in as well. You don't know at that point that the game ends 9-3. Do you remember KC vs Oakland in 2014 or Kansas City vs Houston in 2015? Oakland and Houston fans sure remember. Those games were even more out of hand then last nights game. In each case KC came back with a furious rally. Maddon choose to snuff it out before it could happen. If you are going to get beat, get beat with your best.
Anyways it's alway east to second guess after the fact. Maddon is easily the smartest or second smartest man in any room that involved baseball tactics and managing.
Anyways you left the Cubs for dead. I read it right here.

They're just taking up space that could be used for pinch runners/hitters that Maddon might actually bring into a game.

Lots of ball to be played.
Nothing's been decided yet.
Also see my post above about using starters as relievers.

In a Game 7, it's all hands on deck except for last night's starters.

I actually have a significant bet on the Cubs tonight. I'm better off if they win. Using then Indians ticket as a hedge since it was at 9/1. $50 goes a decent ways on long odds. Bought a lot of protection

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I know what you're saying and I agree with all hands on deck but some hands are better suited for certain jobs on that deck.
Either way, great stuff going on tonight.
I also hate that there has to be a loser tonight.

Yes. He is playing poorly as well. Cubs -1 in that exchange as you stated correctly
But even more damaging is that it ended up chasing Hendricks.

I've been told by a reliable source that DM broke both his ankles jumping off. Tuck and roll DM, tuck and roll
