    Congrats on that 51B, brother. Great eye appeal, tough to find in that card.

    Matt - thanks for the help and advice in securing this one. Now I just need to set up a GoFundMe page to pay for it!

    Thanks dawg. First ever Bowman card that did not also have a refractor version numbered to 499!

    Rounded up most of the Mantle batch before I sell a couple of extras to make room for the 51 Mantle. While scans are fun seeing them together like when you were younger and had the cards out is still fun.

    Picked up a new update to my run of Mantle cards recently and finally got around to opening the mail, and this is my first Bowman card which is not followed by the term "chrome" or "refractor" :)

    Never considered getting one, but saw this one recently for sale and liked the eye appeal and price. Now that I have the Mantle rookie daily double I will be looking to grab a high grade Aaron rookie and maybe a Clemente rookie.

    KC,

    As always great looking cards that all have that nice centering and great eye appeal that seem to surpass the technical grades.

    Congrats on the 51 Bowman, she's a beauty!!! :+1::+1:

    Wow the Bowman rookie looks amazing for the grade. Nice pickup.

    Don and Brad - thank you for the nice comments. Honestly never thought I would get a 51 Mantle that I liked due to prices and demand. Got very lucky on this one. It is a PSA 4 due to a slight crease perfectly hidden where his jersey is wrinkled so it is hard to notice. For me I would rather have a card that looks a few grades higher with strong centering and eye appeal versus a PSA 7 that is 75/25. I used to be a self proclaimed PSA 8 snob and only buy PSA 8 or higher, but having found some cards in the last 6 months or so that look strong but cost 10-15% of a PSA 8 has made me rethink my stance - the 51 Mantle fit the bill along with some 56's and 59 Mantle cards I picked up.

    When I went through some cards last night I really liked how some of them presented, and the 51 has really grown on me. Don't know if it will ever eclipse my favorite value pickup in the 53 Mantle - will sell my 52 Mantle rookie before the 53.

    Love the 53' as well. I have a similar 5, however not as nicely centered as yours. My favorite card of my collection

    Had the cards out late last night watching hoops and was able to take a group shot of them. I know in speaking with other fellow collectors on this and other boards that one thing we don't do enough of is enjoy our cards and collections. Some people I know keep them on their desk or where they can see them, and I would have to say I agree 100%. If you don't get to enjoy them what is the point right?

    Great layout. Did you sell the other 59?

    I am planning on finishing the run in mid grade so PSA 5-7 is what I have been focused on providing they are well centered with strong eye appeal. Sold a few PSA 8's recently along with a well centered PSA 7 from 1959 - found replacements for all of them in a lower grade with the same eye appeal. In some cases I found replacements that were very close in regards to looks, but at prices that were 1/10 of what I sold the higher grades for it only made sense. Figure I will try to finish out the run, and then work on upgrades in PSA 8/8.5 if the opportunity comes along.

    All of us have cards that we don't know how they are only a "6" or a "7" since they look like 8's - I am trying to find those cards but without the PSA 8 price. Thank you again for the nice comments.
