Reaching Out

So this post got me thinking. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/970460/a-massive-trade-for-red-sox-fans#latest

I'm wondering how many of you out there have reached out to others who you know collect what you do or more specifically are on the set registry either ranked above or below where your set is to make a trade? And if you did how did it work out? I have about a 1/3 of a set available for trade and I've been thinking about contacting others on the registry, mostly those who are incomplete in what I have extras of but who do collect other sets which have cards of interest to me. Just looking for inspiration.

I've reached out to many guys on the Yaz Master list. It's a great way to connect with like-minded collectors.
  • Go for it! I've reached out to many on the set Registry to purchase cards to upgrade my '79 set.

It's fun to get to know your "competition" and you may be surprised by who's willing to sell if you make the right offer. Usually I've had success and most wanted a replacement 9 when I purchased their 10s.

Good luck, it's definitely worth a shot and I think you'll find some success.

You be stupid not to! The only way I have been able to find so many great cards is through like minded collectors. It will truly take your collection from good to great, and the least expensive way possible. It's a great way to unload duplicates, pick up new examples and splits up lots.

IMO it's the one thing missing from most collectors these days in the "me, myself, mine" day and age. Back in the day networking was one of the only ways to find obscure cards. Now people's mentality is "Welp, I might find the card, or another example on ebay, or in a lot in one of the 50 auction houses one day". Odds are if you need the card, at least a handful of other collectors are out there looking. If you know who is going to sell, and who has picked up duplicates or upgrades, you are light years ahead of the curve!
